MANILA (1st UPDATE) - Vice President Jejomar Binay on Friday revealed that boxing champion and Sarangani Congressman Manny Pacquiao has agreed to join his senatorial slate in 2016.
“Matagal na naming pinaguusapan yun bago pa maghalalan ng 2013,” said Binay.
Binay, who has declared his intention to run for president in the May 2016 elections, also confirmed that Batangas Governor Vilma Santos and Senator Jinggoy Estrada are among his potential vice presidential candidates.
Binay has cut ties with the Partido Demokratiko ng Pilipinas (PDP)-Laban to launch a new political party that will carry him as its presidential standard-bearer.
He said he will announce the name of his new political party on June 12, Independence Day.
Binay said his new political party will still coalesce with the United National Alliance (UNA), where he ran and won as vice president in the 2010 elections.
Pacquiao, however, said he has yet to make a final decision on Binay’s offer.
“Kung mabuo talaga ang desisyon ko na tumakbo sa Senado e magkapartido naman kami eh,” he said.
The Filipino boxing superstar said he has to consider the welfare of his family in General Santos City.

What's wrong with Manny running as Senator?
by the sovereign law, anybody who is qualified can run as Senator. Besides, this guy has not brought only Honor for our country but he has helped a lot of his constituents.
before you take a jab at Manny Pacquiao's capabilities, take a look at yours first. He may be lacking in experience, but he is willing to serve the people.
I just hope the tentacles of corruption doesn't doesn't overshadow his accomplishments.

yeah, nothing wrong with him running...but if he becomes a senator, we all know it's not always HIS decision but his advisers...who'll most likely exploit his inept-acy...
we have another lito lapid coming...
tell me, why are some people disqualified as candidates who are more "qualified" than this guy?

Pacquiao is in the twilight of his career. Maybe he is thinking a second career in politics ala Revilla/Estrada. I think he should not be in politics anymore. I have read earlier na he is going bankrupt because of spending related to politics. What if his boxing earnings dried up na?
