some newer systems has a built in firewire already all you need to do is get a firewire cable. If yours dont have get a firewire card which is not that expensive and the appropriate software. good luck!

    DVD cam is dangerous.

I recommend MiniDV, or Digital 8 will do...

What's needed is a FireWire cable with the end corresponding to the size of the DV terminal of your DCR (Digital Camera Recorder). That would either be 4pin, 6pin, Kingpin, etc.

And a firewire card needs to be installed at the rear of your harddrive. With XP, all you do is insert it on an empty slot and run all the necessary rivers... It might be similar in other Disc Operating Systems.

You need an HDD that has a capacity of at least 40 - 80GB as 1 hour of DV footage is equivalent to 13 Gigabytes of audio video interleaved (AVI)

Use TMPGenc or an MPEG converter before you burn your AVI or WMV files to DVD so the stream will be compliant and it will be encoded as it will be read normally on the components.
