EA Sports already unleashed one NBA surprise this year when they revealed their plans to relaunch NBA Jam. Now, the NBA Live series is getting a touch-up as well, and the company has decided to re-brand their perennial basketball release beginning with "NBA Elite 11" in October.
"We plan to profoundly evolve the interactive basketball experience in a way that the category has not seen for a decade," EA Sports president Peter Moore said in a press release. "In 'NBA Elite 11,' we'll introduce a gameplay experience that gives fans the control on the court that they have been begging for in a basketball game for years."
Last year's "NBA Live 10" will be the last title to bear that name, unless a retro-branding occurs at some point in the future. The new Elite franchise that rises from its ashes will attempt to improve its control system using more independent movements and a "real-time physics system" meant to allow for faster reaction times.
"This is the first basketball simulation videogame where you are controlling every movement, dribble move, shot, dunk, lay-up, steal and block in real time with one-to-one control," creative director David Littman said. "You're no longer going to push a button and watch the computer generate a long animation sequence."
Right now, the game has only been announced for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. You may have had an "ah ha!" moment reading that, since "NBA Jam" is currently a Wii exclusive. It does seem that EA has figured out its console NBA game strategy.
