Default Undersea tunnel seen to connect Cebu, Lapu-Lapu City

MANILA, Philippines – A legislator has proposed the construction of an undersea tunnel that will connect to major cities in the province of Cebu.

Cebu City 1st District Rep. Rachel Marguerite del Mar said the tunnel will link Cebu City to Lapu-Lapu City and ease traffic congestion, which has been a result of the expansion of the Mactan-Cebu International Airport.

"This project may appear ambitious but this is the solution to the traffic situation in the city," Del Mar said in a statement.

Del Mar recently filed House Bill 192, which provides for the construction of the additional access routes and appropriating funds for the infrastructure project.

"Because of this, necessary complementary infrastructure facilities must be in place and in top shape. And any infrastructure strategy must consider the expanded and accelerated economic growth of the area," she said.

"The traffic movement across the existing Mandaue City to Lapu-Lapu City roads and bridges shall exceed its accommodation capacity in the coming days," the neophyte lawmaker added. - By Dennis Carcamo (Philstar News Service, Philippine News for the Filipino Global Community)

its a bit ambitious.. base on the cost of that prospected tunnel project i dont think cebu city nor lapu-lapu city can cope up with the huge challenge financially... i would love to have that tunnel but i doubt it would materialized... im seeing a JAP/US contractor with expensive materials to make this tunnel as safe as possible. mas musalig pako sa mga foreign contractors when it comes to safety.

it is a nice plan having such a plan which is already present as of now....ang question is kung lig-on....the contractors nga ilang ghire are japanese contractors and wa sad ni gitihikan sa gobyerno....if this pushes through, it will be the first in the Philippines...
