In my experience, Cisco has always made the best, most secure and most configurable routers, but of course if you factor in the price, mahal gyud. I've been using a 3com office router for 5 years now, and so far it has performed very well. Linksys is another good brand, kay division ra man pud ni sila sa Cisco.
cisco is the best for core and edge.
For enterprise network,for me cisco still the best.But for small office/home use and no complex configuration needed i prefer linksys.
Linksys and CNET.
for budget concious u can use the ff. hardware or old pc as follows.
a. EDIMAX model: 6104k - current market price 1.4k - running 15 hrds/day alsmost 9 months in my cafe for backup (OS linux freesco)
b. PC ROUTER: specification celeron 200mhz, 64mb memory- redhat linux OS v. running 15 hrds/day almost 2 yrs. in my cafe.
c. PC ROUTER w/ web (apache), proxy (squid), email (sendmail), ftp, mysql, firewall (iptables), vpn(cipe)
redhat linux OS v. 9 running 24/7 almost 8 yrs. in our office
