Slick to hit Cebu ‘in 10 to 14 days’

An Oceanologist projected that in 10 to 14 days the oil spill in Guimaras Island will reach northern Cebu waters.

Science and Technology Secretary Estrella Alabastro echoed the view of Rex Baleña, who holds a doctorate in oceanology from the University of Hawaii and who visited the site.

Alabastro, in a briefing of the Task Force Guimaras in Malacañang, said scientists have observed that the slick is moving northward and could hit Bantayan Island, if it is not quickly blocked.

Madridejos Mayor Lety Mancio is already taking action. She believes the oil slick will make its way to her town in Bantayan Island in four days.

This is what Iam concerned. Once the slick will reach Visayan Sea, a great bulk of our countrymen will suffer.

Visayan Sea accounts for more than 50 percent of the sea food source of this country. An environmentalist told me this sea can even feed the entire world. Why there are so many fishes and marine food in the area? It is sheltered by currents!

Now if it could be possible eh dapat harangan na ng mga nag prevent ng oil slick portions of Panay, Northern Negros and Northern Cebu para hindi pumasok sa Visayan Sea yung slick.

If we turn on our tv sets we will see the clowns in Congress taking turns yakking away about the never-ending & getting nowhere Arroyo impeachment while the oil spill is creating havoc and becoming a major all-time disaster for our country. And a committee is tasked to investigate ? Am sure we will never hear the end of this once this will affect the other neighboring countries. And what about tourism ? Imagine Bantayan & Boracay with black & oily sand. God forbid.
When oh when will they ever learn to get their acts together ? The oil spill should be given priority by this government. Pagka hinay baya nila manglihok- kinahanglan paba duslitan mga ( L***t) ani nila ?
Am pretty sure this will also drive the prices of all seafoods up! Pagka mahal na unya sa mga crabs, shrimps, squids, fish, clams etc.
