THE Cebu City Government will be releasing over P235 million in assistance to 59,500 senior citizens in the city on Holy Week.

Mayor Michael Rama announced yesterday that the City will be distributing the first tranche of the senior citizens’ financial assistance on March 25 and 26, which are Holy Monday and Holy Tuesday.
Each senior citizen will be receiving P4,000 out of the P10,000 the mayor promised this year.

In his regular news conference, Rama said the distribution of the cash assistance is a City Hall affair.

While the activity will be overseen by the Office of the Senior Citizen’s Affairs (Osca), Rama said City Hall’s 21 departments will be part of it and will be
responsible in preparing for the venue.

“They (employees) have all showed their commitment to this so they can articulate and share the meaning of respect for the elderly,” he said.
Osca Executive Officer Perla Ortega said the venue for the distribution will either be
the barangay’s sports complex or schools.
On March 25, Ortega said those who will be getting their share of the City’s cash assistance are the senior citizens from the 46 barangays in the north district.
The senior citizen’s cash assistance for the 34 barangays in the south district will be released on March 26.
Rama said he wants the cash assistance distributed through automated teller machines (ATM) so the elderly can just withdraw their money when it’s already available.
Rama insisted that the cash aid of the elderly will be distributed on a quarterly basis, defying the recently approved ordinance of Councilor Augustus Pe Jr. that seeks to release it monthly.


- Giving promises to the elderlies and breaking it is one way of not respecting them. Is giving the cash assistance of the senior citizen on a quarterly basis is more beneficial done doing it in a monthly basis?. How can they support their monthly expenses if they are only receiving it on a quartly basis?.

- What is your thoughts on Mayor Michael Rama's stand in giving cash assistance to the senior citizen in a quarterly basis?. Is it a rightful act or not?.

nagpalabwanay ra ni cla ug hatag cash assistance ni osmena, kang osmena jud ni nga project, gi palabwan ni rama kay election naman sad. but it helps to our senior citizens. i hope that entire cebu will be doing this also, not only cebu city.

mas pabor tuod ang monthly...pero mas gamay ang madawat...ug HASOL kay gasige rag adto sa barangay hall or city hall ang mga tiguwang nya pirting inita yatis...and i have a first hand experience kay akong kuyogan akong papa pirmi...

quarterly is okay pod...labi pa sa convenience of ATM...actually, i prefer it this way para menos ang hasol...and at the convenient time sa senior citizen nga mo-withdraw...
ang kaapan lang ani kay KUNG mag-salig lang ani kay wa nay income ang senior tawon...labi pa tong sa low to no income seniors...

if we look on the brighter side, and not on the political side, you got it...it really helps sa senior citizens...which are our parents/grandparents...that helped in one way or another made cebu what it is today...

maka dawat na karong adlawa ang mga senior citizen sa ilang benepisyo, yehey.... usa na akong mama maka dawat, pero 4k ra daw ihatag ang 6k inig june pa installment diay. hehehehehehe. ok ra, at least naka tabang gihapon.
