The Gospel is my/our basis of salvation which is written in the bible:

by which also ye are saved, if ye hold fast the word which I preached unto you, except ye believed in vain.
I Corinthians 15:2

your salvation depends on what you do here on earth.
do good and good things will be your reward, and vice versa

as for me it is only by Grace that we have been saved. Since we are spiritually dead because of our since we can't respond to the calling of God.
Dead can't hear, see, walked etc... that is totally the same with our spiritual status. We can not accept the Gospel of God without his mercies and grace. The wrath of God is upon us. But because of the grace of God we have been saved. As what rcruman said, its the Gospel of God. The Gospel of God is the Grace of God whch is Jesus Christ.
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast" (Ephesians 2:8-9)

"salvation" is based on what you believed

if your Catholic.. you get the catholic standards of salvation.
if your Protestant you get the protestant's standards of salvation.
if your Muslim you get the muslim's standards of salvation.
if you Buddhist you get buddhist's standards of salvation.

and so on and so fort.
