Very popular for 'classic' systems is Puppy Linux.

I'm testing 'TinyMe' -- also designed for da 'classic' PC hehe -- rolled out by my friend KDulcimer -- a former PCLinuxOS dev team member who has now moved on with other friends to develop Unity Linux (he asked me to design da TinyMe logo back in 2006 i think). It's currently on a VirtualBox with your specs -- seems to run fine but there's no substitute por da real thang hehe.
