Default Being an OSCAR nominated film does not mean its good movie.

The Oscars is forth coming. A lot hoopla precede before the event. But after so many years observing how they choose nominations and eventually winners I dont think they are really that good as what they want us to believe. Take for example THE HOURS and ADAPTATION. These are Oscar awardees. Yet when I watch them, I feel asleep. Laay kaayo ang style. The same goes to with the AVIATOR.

On the other hand, THE PASSION OF CHRIST was not even nominated for any major awards but yet all of us know it was a best picture material.

Di na gyud ko mo accept sa perception sa Oscar hook, line and sinker.

I lost all my trust for the A.M.P.A.S. (Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences) ever since they made Titanic win.....

Guys, guys, film appreciation is subjective... for me, I say the best indicator for a film's success is definitely its box office earnings-- itong mga nominations and awards are just the pretigious cream on top--- and the thing about cream is that it tastes sweet but essentially is just fats and sugar, no real substance at all...

.. the Oscars has been the haven for low budget films to get recognition. Always been political, it showed during the "black year". when halley and denzel won.

since when man ang Criteria nahimong "If this movie makes me sleep, it is bad, LOL"?

And I have to disagree with The adpatation not deserving, it's a great film, maybe wa ra ka kuha sa subtle intricacies sa story, and Kauffman(the writer) is an amazing writer, the guy behind "Being John Malkovich" and "Eternal Sunshine". mga high level storytelling na iyang tirada.

an OSCAR award winner/nominee doesn't have to be always about Big boobs, explosions, sinking boats, Box office receipts and Lord of the ringing type of movies.

pero bottom line subjective ra gyud na, pero to have won or been nominated an oscar, that is still prestigious and an honor...

pero I hated it when ERIN BROKOVICH won at the oscars, that was such an awful movie...

again, it's purely subjective... if you want to blame anyone blame it on the 1500 certified Academy members whose votes decides the recipients.

Of all the things I read around here, I will agree in one statement...."that it is a subjective perception". What is good for you may not be good for me and what is good for me may not be good for you. The criteria for being nominated/awarded in the Oscars varies depending on the people who gets to vote for them. These people, like us all, differs from each other. Furthermore...as human as they are, their decisions can also be motivated by various reasons.

Does it really matter if a movie is Oscar nominated or not? Lets face it, for the last decade or so, the OscarsĀ* hasn't been about honoring the best in the entertainment. Everytime it's on TV these days, its all bout which actress is wearing what dress. Which Armani looks good on who. Who has the best accessories. Who has lost weight, who has gained. It's pathetic.

(OT: The only reason I watch the Oscars these days is when Michael Caine gets nominated, coz he always got something funny to say everytime he collects his award. Other than him, I find the other actors/actresses boring when they collect their award on stage. They always read their thank yous with their big list thanking everyone they know (even the person that takes care of their pets). ZZZzzzzzzz)
