My school blocked all connections through the net and can only be accessedin IE using a proxy. Can that same proxy be used on torrents? Coz ive tried using that proxy and BitComet just hangs

most likely not. if you really are that desperate to download torrents in a school network, try the latest Opera browser. it has built-in torrent support.. it might work.
Using HTTP proxies for torrents is generally not recommended because HTTP proxies are not designed for peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing protocols such as BitTorrent. HTTP proxies are designed to handle web traffic and are not optimized for P2P file exchange. Therefore, it is best to use residential proxies. These proxies will provide you with good connection speeds to servers in all countries and excellent uptime.
