Hi,
I think there are some signs to look after, when you look after a new Martial Arts:
1. If it has to many high kicks (can easy be countered).
2. If it has to much groundfighting (not good if there is friends around).
3. If it is to much into Chi or Ki energy (if they keep it real and not goes against science)....
4. If its a good or a bad teacher....
5. If they keep the training up-to-date and real....
6. If they are to much into Sports (I have seen many who got bad habits from fighting under a certain set of rules within Sports, that their opponent on the street never would follow, since there are no rules on the street).
Besides those you might also notice how people in the Dojo are acting and the history of the style/teacher....
