the real question are the Americans willing to burden their economy by taking the Philippines in?
I doubt it.

Well how about this:
Philippines becomes a US state and is recognized by all foreign entities. US militarizes the whole country and makes it one of the biggest MOBs/FOBs in the world while cutting down on its other 700++ bases worldwide. It changes a slight bit about its foreign policy since it has drastically reduced its military presence on foreign soil.
But that's not the case here in the philippines since they are already domestically located hence no longer intruding on the sovereignty of other nations. Yeah how about that.
A fully militarized state, armed with nuclear weapons capable of first strike to Russia and China. The US does not have to worry about collateral damage since most of enemy rataliation will only be concentrated here in the Philippines.
But on the flipside you have less graft, less corruption, better infrastructure, higher quality of living and of course good-looking citizens.
Is this even possible? If so,what could be the quasi-judicial processes involved during its statehood? Or, should this thread be moved in the humor section? It is somehow exciting yet feels like a pipe dream.

Very possible but first you need to get rid of the constitution. It won't be easy doing it the legal way so you would have to do it illegally. That means a war, famine or any adverse event that is almost impossible to solve even with all the government resources at its disposal. This would mean destroying the government institutions and then waiting for america to come in with 'the right to protect'. This could be like a scenario similar to kosovo but on a larger scale. The US has to have a desperate reason to do this anyway since the cost is just unimaginable.
This will cleanse this country of our's of pestilence corrupt politicians.

we can do that. murag crimea-style ba. pero dli kinahanglan tibuok pilipinas. ok ra ug ang island of cebu ra or kung kinsa ang mokuyog.
@mental slave: You are one retarded piece of ****. Also, it's a little late for that, seeing as the US' leaders would never want to outwardly look similar to Putin.
Personally, I'd rather we bolster ties with the Russians. Would be good to have their sensibilities rub off on our nation (Yes, I also know what that might entail and I honestly think that it would be much better).
Better us than commie china

why the Russians, anyway? If a war were to breakout between the Philippines and China (let's just make this the focal point), I think they'd have more reservations about opening hostilities with China because a.) They have strong ties with them, and b.) they share a border and China making conventional retaliatory strikes very easy. They're so warm to each other that you'd have to worry for Philippine's sake, as it would be hard for Russia to honor whatever ties they would have with us. Not saying the U.S. will, but at least it is relatively more likely in the same scenario.
I think its best to pursue what is pursuable, and that is maintaining strong ties with the Americans. Statehood or annexation under the U.S. is unrealistic, though. The more evident the tie is, the stronger of a deterrent it is for Chinese aggression. Heck, we should be offering them to build a military base in the country at a discount or for free. (even though strategically, it would be unnecessary for them it seems). Murag uyab nga nagkig-buwag nya desperado makig-balik.
All that said, as it stands, China would have to be batsh*t insane to declare war over a "few rocks that are not even inhabitable".
