CICC 10 days ahead of sked: architect

Work on the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) is 10 days ahead of schedule and is expected to remain on time with the help of modern technology, according to architect Manuel Guanzon.

Guanzon says he is confident the building will be finished in time for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) summit in December.

The construction of the CICC in Mandaue City is being undertaken by WT Construction, a Cebu based company.

He said the schedule prepared for the construction was for pile cutting to be done on March 31 yet but they were able to do this last Tuesday.

“There’s no way that we cannot finish this because we don’t have any choice... Imelda (Marcos) was able to build the Folk Arts Theater within 77 days when equipment before were not as modern as today,” Guanzon told reporters.

if they can finish it in 7 months, i fear that the quality will be substandard. the schedule is too tight, that's why the premier construction companies of cebu like Primary Structures and Dakay Construction did not bother to bid for the project.

the architect made reference on the Folk Arts theater which was finished in just 77 days, he thinks that they can also finish the CICC in just a short period citing that latest technology is at hand.

^well, look at the Folk Arts Theater now, it's just a white elephant not being used because of the substandard quality. and so many construction workers died during construction because of the rush.
we don't want that to happen to the CICC, lots of taxpayer's money is being spent, might as well give it enough time and not rush it para sigurado nindot gyud ang resulta.

sorry, sayop diay, i did not mean Folk Arts Theater, ang Film Center of the Philippines diay ang white elephant. naglibog ko kay parehas man ni sila naa sa CCP complex. it was the Film Center that was rushed and daghan kaayo nangamatay nga construction workers. it's still standing now and wa gyud siya magamit.

This month (or next month), Cebu will host a world conference on Global Terrorism. It will be held at the Mactan Shangri-La.

The meeting will be attended by top officials from various countries including the US.
