FYI: They have been through many test including Psychological Test. Every year in the formation, they will have a deliberation whether a seminarian will push through or not. Unfortunately, there are some able to surpassed the process and make it to the priesthood. Human as we are, are not perfect. Even us are subject to imperfection.

Well, in the end of the days according to the scripture we will be judged,
and we do have a trial either we are condemned to go to hell or be saved to go to heaven.
It's the same litigation and judgment process for we are judge based upon our wrongdoings but the only difference is that for God w are only judged at the end while in this world is on the course of one's life. The role of the Priest and the Lawyer is quite similar in terms of defending, the Priest would guide and try to defend the soul against perdition while the lawyer will try to guide the accused during the justice proceedings and defending him/her not getting penalized. I hope you get my point.
God does not need anyone to defend you when judgment is already imposed for he already know if you follow the Priest's heeding and guidance based upon the holy book the Bible.
