Before I heard Tool my music revolved around the heavy metal riffs of Metallica, Megadeth, Sepultura, Wolfgang, the growls of Deftones, Korn, Soulfly, Cheese (Queso), Greyhoundz, the melodic hard rhythm of Silverchair, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains, Faith No More, and the cool and laid-back strumming of Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins, Oasis, Rivermaya, Seven Mary Three, Days of the New.
When I heard the song "Sweat", I've noticed something familiar that haunted me during my grade school years. A song that randomly played in my mind that I can hardly distinguish and define but somehow I was certain that I already heard it - somewhere between NU 107's or from a neighbor's ear-splitting music tracks. I found out that "Stinkfist" and "Forty-6 and Two" were all Tool songs just like "Sweat" and I knew then that I felt attached to their music of some kind. This band is way too deep and realistic and meaningful than any new bands emerging like weeds in the garden.
It's not just Maynard, it's not just Adam but all of them collaborating to create a more meaningful, unworldly and piercing music that takes anybody to the limits of their humanity to appreciate something more enlightening and out-of-worldly. Great band! Very great band! Their music, words and arrangements are not just a musical influence but a philisophical and spiritual influence to me.
