I don't know where your hostility (as shown by your choice of words in responding to my post) comes from (or perhaps I do), but yes, such things are related in one way or the other. I didn't stress that it is the ONLY reason why people like to talk about showbiz stuff, but rather, just injecting a point that to most, may seem not obvious, but in fact, true to a certain extent. Big corporations spend massive amounts of money for marketing products, and everytime a "free vehicle" to that marketing comes along (i.e. emergent publicity via showbusiness related topics, esp. in mass media/internet), then it brings a smile to marketing departments because it makes their jobs easier, to a certain extent.

The tiny Filipino politician on my shoulder is repeatedly chanting "persona non-grata" to me.
Paghilom.
Typical filipino reaction.
hahahahaha.... we asians are natural born racists (based from what ive observed on various asians i meet).... naa lang jud nga nisaka sa utok...
simply because she isn't Filipino and that may be enough reason that she does not want to look like one. unlike perhaps some Pinoys i know who would take it as a compliment to be mistaken for anything else with a fairer complexion.
the issue of racism, we should bear in mind, does not only exist in one who puts down another "race" due to skin color. it is also an issue about a race's insecurity about its own color.
think about it: if she said she did not want to be too pale to be mistaken for somebody Scandinavian, or Caucasian, would anybody even consider that as a racist remark?
our reactions reveal too much of our own insecurities about our own skin. and that is even sadder than anything else.

MANILA, Philippines – Hollywood actress Lucy Liu has apologized for her comment about looking Filipino on “The Late Night Show with David Letterman” show last week.In an interview with Ruben Nepales of the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Liu said she never intended to insult Filipinos.
“I am so sorry that my comment was taken out of context, as I would never insult another group or ethnicity,” she said.
On October 11, the Hollywood actress of Chinese descent appeared on Letterman's show to promote her upcoming series “Elementary.”
She also talked about her regular exercise regimen with Letterman.
Asked if she likes running outdoors or indoors, the Hollywood actress of Chinese descent said: “I run in a machine. It's easier for me. Also if I get really dark, I'll start to look a little Filipino, it wouldn't match. If I start getting darker, you know what I mean? I can get really dark if I’m in the sun too much.”
Liu’s statement drew mixed reactions, especially those on social media.
Some said Liu sounded a bit of a racist with her comment while others believe there is nothing wrong with the actress' statement.
