but ateneo's upgrade next year is something to look forward...
KEifer RAVENA(if all goes well), JAYVEN TALLO(hopefully madala sa team A), GREGORY SLAUGHTER (already in ateneo and will be allowed to play next year) and GWYNNE CAPACIO (already in the blue eagles line-up but opt to concentrate this year on the national team)..

tallo is out of CIT nah og naa na sa sacred heart (ateneo de cebu).. and that picture of his was taken during the 1st la salle-ateneo match.. may tag mu-improve ni bataa, plaing alongside keifer ravena..

and also the comeback of sumalinog. hahaha

I'm all for the development of Greg Slaughter but I really hate that Ateneo was able to snag him. It would've been better for him to stay in UV. I understand that he's really a hot commodity because of his height and tremendous upside, but come on, what ever happened to loyalty? First, he spurned UC - the school that was supposed to have 'discovered' him - after UV gave him a better offer. Then, he gives UV a dose of their own medicine by moving to Ateneo, reasoning that he wanted to be based in Manila because of his commitment to the Gilas team. Truth is, while he does practice with Gilas, they haven't been able to avail of his services as of late ever since the school year started, so what's the difference with him staying and finishing his studies in UV? You might say 'crab mentality' or whatever, but loyalty is an important virtue in my book, and I'm really disappointed with what I've seen with Slaughter. I understand that an Ateneo education and experience is an opportunity not afforded to everyone and that Slaughter is just looking out for his future outside basketball, but still, you shouldn't turn your back on those who were with you when the spotlight wasn't centered on you yet. Not too long ago, when Slaughter still sucked serious balls, when UV played Ateneo in the PCCL 2007 Finals, remember the harsh comments thrown his way by the Ateneo people in online forums, YouTube, etc? They were saying he was worse than EJ Feihl, 'bano', 'walang kwenta', etc. And now that he's somewhat raised his game and developed, they're now bragging to the other schools that they'll be a force next year when Slaughter suits up? That's just pathetic. UV had to 'suffer' through the growing pains of Slaughter, and now that he's become a legit force, they won't be able to see the fruits of their labor? It would've been a better script had Slaughter stayed, and they finally get over the PCCL hump and win it all. (Don't get me wrong, I'm not a UV student. I'm just a basketball fan, and I want to see a Cebu team rise up and beat the bigger-city UAAP/NCAA teams for once.)

But, since he's already in Ateneo and is supposedly suiting up for them next season, it will be interesting to see how he matches up with the 6'10" Cameroonian/Nigerian import of FEU who will also be suiting up next year. I saw him play in some scrimmages and he's definitely more naturally athletic than Slaughter was when he first started out. Even with Slaughter's Gilas training, I can still see the FEU import holding his own. The Gilas training isn't quite everything it seems. JR Cawaling and Magi Sison are still not quite living up to their potential notwithstanding their stints on that team.

As for this Season's Final 4, it's already pretty apparent that the current Top 4 teams will be the ones staying there for the rest of the season and that it's just a matter of determining who the 2nd-3rd-4th seeds will be. FEU is a lock for the #1 spot, their only loss was off of a timely putback by Adamson. You can't expect to win that way against FEU every game. They have such a solid roster, led by RR Garcia (my choice as MVP this year). My sentimental pick for #2 is Adamson, because of Canada (and also Colina, who everyone forgets is also Cebuano). I want Adamson to finally shed off their heartbreak-kids tag, at least for this season and at least until Canada and Colina finish up their eligibility. I want them to really test Ateneo (my projected #3 seed) by getting the twice-to-beat advantage in the Final 4. If Ateneo beats them twice, then you can say they really bled for and earned it and FEU might be in trouble if they meet in the Finals. As for DSLU, while I want them to make the Finals, they're just too young and too small. They need to earn their stripes first. They have to learn to lose in order to learn how to win (last season doesn't count, I'm talking about this current roster, who will still be around for a good number of years). In the years to come, with that young lineup intact, expect La Salle to figure in many Finals games and perhaps even grab a trophy or two. That's a lineup full of former RP-Youth players, in case you forgot. They have Arnold Van Opstal suiting up next year too. I hope that guy doesn't end up as another PJ Walsham or Ferdinand (gulp!).
