`pre - On ninoy's murder, the story was that marcos was really sick at the time, and he didn't know or wasn't told about the plot. If he had, he would have rejected it; marcos was really smart, brilliant even, and he knew that killing ninoy would just make him a martyr. that's why he agreed to free ninoy but have him go to boston, and effectively exile him there. but ninoy departed from the script and decided to come home. as to the mastermind, well, your guess is as good as mine...

But I beg to disagree about marcos' motives...to those who were of age when it was declared, martial law looked "good" at the beginning. smart guy that he was, marcos took advantage of the mood of rebelliousness in the late 60s to early 70s (“flower power”, woodstock, etc.) that had come to the philippines - plaza miranda bombing, mendiola, riots, etc. - to justify martial law. he even called it the “New Society”. but it soon became clear that it was all about power and money...marcos planned it all along, as I remember Enrile saying during EDSA that the “ambush” of his vehicle was all part of the plot to justify declaring martial law.

I can't say that Tommy O. is perfect. I don't agree with all his opinions and policies either. But the man has vision and has the political will to realize that vision. The way i see it, he has been jousting with capitol lately exactly because of this. It's not because he is a mean person, it's because other politicians are maliciously putting hindrances to the city's development (as Tommy plans it) for their own future benefit. (Read the papers more closely). God knows we need leaders like him in the Philippines! Leaders who can put their feet down sometimes and say "no" if it's needed even if he's facing a politician with a higher office. Gamay ra jud ang mga politicians karun sa Pinas nga pareha niya. I can only name less than a dozen. Duterte is not one of them 'cuz Davao City maybe orderly but he uses not very appealing methods to achieve order. I like Cebu City for the liberties that Cebuanos enjoy. So let's be pragmatic in the coming elections: who would you have for congressman for Cebu City south? Tommy, with his track record and occasionally disagreeable personality, or Atan, with his "Arthro" popularity and political backing of Winston "GSIS" Garcia?
