Arabs believe that Israel is taking its land, even now they refer to it as "occupied palestine".

In my opinion, what israel is doing is worsening the situation, and increasing hatred towards it. And like it or not US, is pulled into the picture as it is Israels major ally since the beginning. This in turn, increases hatred over it. If this problem is to be solved they should look into the root of the problem, and I don't mean the root Mr. Bush is referring to in his recent speech.

If not then, the world is headed for $100/barrel of oil...

    just my 10 cents worth

I personally agree that the Israeli action is disproportionate, but we should not discount the fact that this is a long standing conflict and the situation between Isreal and its Arab neighbors are just as volatile as ever before that a kidnapping of two Israeli's side can mean bombing "enemy cities". Who's wrong or right? Depends really from what you're own. Isreali's are trying to protect thier tiny state sorrounded by Arabs. But then again these people (the Arabs) have occupied these lands for generations and 1,800 years in fact after the Jews were expelled from the Holy Land.

There were options in the creation of the Jewish Nation: Please see article below from wikipedia

Before 1917 some Zionist leaders took seriously proposals for Jewish homelands in places other than Palestine. Herzl's Der Judenstaat argued for a Jewish state in either Palestine, "our ever-memorable historic home", or Argentina, "one of the most fertile countries in the world". In 1903 British cabinet ministers suggested the British Uganda Program, land for a Jewish state in "Uganda" (actually in modern Kenya). Herzl initially rejected the idea, preferring Palestine, but after the April 1903 Kishinev pogrom Herzl introduced a controversial proposal to the Sixth Zionist Congress to investigate the offer as a temporary measure for Russian Jews in danger. Notwithstanding its emergency and temporary nature, the proposal still proved very divisive, and widespread opposition to the plan was fueled by a walkout led by the Russian Jewish delegation to the Congress. Nevertheless, a majority voted to establish a committee for the investigation of the possibility, and it was not dismissed until the 7th Zionist Congress in 1905.

In response to this, the Jewish Territorialist Organization led by Israel Zangwill split off from the main Zionist movement. The territorialists attempted to establish a Jewish homeland wherever possible, but went into decline after 1917 and were dissolved in 1925. From that time Palestine was the sole focus of Zionist aspirations. Few Jews took seriously the establishment by the Soviet Union of a Jewish Autonomous Republic in the Russian Far East.

One of the major motivations for Zionism was the belief that the Jews needed to return to their historic homeland, not just as a refuge from anti-Semitism, but also to govern themselves as an independent nation. Some Zionists, mainly socialist Zionists, believed that the Jews' centuries of being oppressed in anti-Semitic societies had reduced Jews to a meek, vulnerable, despairing existence which invited further anti-Semitism. They argued that Jews should redeem themselves from their history by becoming farmers, workers, and soldiers in a country of their own. These socialist Zionists generally rejected religion as perpetuating a "Diaspora mentality" among the Jewish people."

Had they chosen to established thier "nation" elsewhere. More fertile, bigger land area with the absence of enemies then maybe this conflict wouldn't have existed. I've been previliged to get a copy of the movie "Paradise Now". Israel's entry to the Oscars for 2005 (?) Depicting the last few days of two Palestinian Arab suicide bombers. It made my eyes more open that before, the Palestinians just wants as badly to establish thier own homeland. They have afterall occupied these lands for 1,800 years----so who are these recent arrivals of 100 years ago to oppress them remeniscent of Jewish concentration camps?

In Israeli's effort to secure themselves it has turned itself like the thier Nazi tormentors.

What they are doing now is just a self defense, if they will make no action about the kidnapping of the 2 soldiers for sure Hizbollah will do it again..

If Lebanon implemented the U.N. Resolution 1559 http://www.un.org/News/Press/docs/2004/sc818l1.doc.htm "the Council called for the disbanding and disarmament of all Lebanese and non-Lebanese militias." (Hizbollah) this things wont happen.. Thats why US want Hizbollah disarmament and they will give back the 2 kidnapped soldiers before ceaefire will be implimented.

    OT:

The Holy Land belongs to The Roman Empire since 44 BC until the Turks captured Constantinople in 1453 AD. Catholics first owned the Holy Land before the arabs, so Christians/Jews has the right also..

i think it's the jews' rights to return to their homeland and the palestinians deserve a country.

it's not israel entry to the oscar. it palestine's. if the palestinians sticks to the 'roadmap', they could have their homeland in gaza strip and west bank.

it so unfair to compare the israeli action as a reminiscence of a concentration camp. it almost sounds you don't know what you are talking.
