Wade leaves Converse, teams with Jordan & Nike

NBA scoring champion Dwyane Wade is changing shoes, making the switch from Converse to Nike's Jordan Brand.

Nike announced Friday that the star Miami Heat guard will now represent the Jumpman label, joining Chris Paul, Carmelo Anthony, Derek Jeter and others.

Wade had three years left on his deal with Converse, which made him the centerpiece of its attempt to reinvigorate a once-thriving basketball business. That relationship seemed rocky when the 2006 NBA finals MVP wore his most recently released signature shoe, the "Wade 4," only once last season and favoring an older model instead.

But Wade said the partnership ends on good terms.

"When I came into the NBA, I didn't have a lot of exposure and Converse gave me an opportunity to head a brand and be the face of a brand," Wade told The Associated Press. "I'm really thankful for six long, good years. I've gotten five shoes out of the deal and my dream came true at the Converse brand, because they put my name on a pair of sneakers."

^ hehe.. it doesn't really matter if he goes jumpman(nike) or converse since both are owned by nike... converse was bought by nike at 2003..

^Yeah, that was also mentioned in the article. But still, Converse's sneaker designs suck!

Sa una cge lang ko huna2x DWade, a true superstar that he is, doesn't deserve a so-so design for his signature shoes.

Mayna lang ni karon, mabuhatan na syag sapatos nga pare-pareha ka nindot ug ka marketable sa kang Kobe.

Source: Knicks forward Wilcox to Pistons - NBA - Yahoo! Sports

Chris Wilcox(notes) agreed to a a two-year, $6 million contract with the Detroit Pistons, league sources told Yahoo! Sports on Saturday.

Wilcox, a 6-foot-10 power forward, will join free agents Charlie Villanueva(notes) and Ben Gordon(notes) on a remade Pistons roster. Detroit had been pursued by Utah for a Carlos Boozer(notes)- Tayshaun Prince(notes) deal, but Pistons president Joe Dumars decided against it, sources said.

Detroit hasn’t been inclined to give Boozer a contract extension – besides still deeply valuing Prince. Detroit also had considered signing forward Drew Gooden(notes), who is still available on the market.
Wilcox, 26, finished last season with the New York Knicks, after a mid-season trade from Oklahoma City. He’s averaged 9.3 points and 5.3 rebounds for his career. He was originally drafted with the eighth pick of the 2002 draft by the Los Angeles Clippers, where he played until traded to Seattle in 2006

Cavaliers sign Moon to offer sheet - NBA - Yahoo! Sports

CLEVELAND (AP)—The Cleveland Cavaliers have signed restricted free agent Jamario Moon(notes) to an offer sheet.

Moon spent last season with the Heat, who on Sunday confirmed the offer first reported by ESPN.com. Terms were not disclosed.

Calls to Joel Bell, Moon’s agent, were not returned.

Miami has seven days to match the offer. Moon averaged 7.1 points and 4.5 rebounds in 26.5 minutes per game last year.

The Heat already have a glut of wing players and team president Pat Riley has often said often over the past few weeks that salary cap and luxury tax restrictions could force Miami to keep as few as 13 players on the roster as opposed to the maximum 15.

Moon has spent four seasons in the NBA, the first three with Toronto, averaging 7.8 points and 5.4 rebounds.

Shaq to star in TV sports reality series

CLEVELAND (AP)—Shaquille O’Neal(notes) would deluge Michael Phelps in a cannonball competition. What about a race across the pool?

    We’ll see.

The NBA superstar will star in “Shaq Vs.,” a TV series where the 15-time All-Star center will challenge top athletes in their respective sports. During one episode in the show, which debuts on Aug. 18 on ABC, Shaq will swim against Olympic superstar Phelps.

O’Neal, now with the Cleveland Cavaliers, also will try his football skills against Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, box retired world champion Oscar De La Hoya, bat against St. Louis slugger Albert Pujols, trade tennis volleys with Wimbledon champ Serena Williams and play volleyball against Olympic gold medalists Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor.

O’Neal will negotiate a handicap with his opponents and train with a coach for one week leading up to each challenge.

“These athletes may be on top of their game, but I am up for the challenge,” O’Neal said. “I plan to train hard and win, so look out.”

O’Neal came up with the idea for the competition as a way of training for the upcoming season.
His first opponent will be Roethlisberger, the Steelers’ Super Bowl-winning QB. They’ll compete in a 7-on-7 passing drill to be filmed later this week in the Pittsburgh area. Also, there will be a news conference leading up to the event as well as before future challenges.

A four-time NBA champion with the Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat, O’Neal was traded from Phoenix to Cleveland last month. The 37-year-old has just one season left on his contract but said he wants to play three more years and is hoping he can help Cleveland superstar LeBron James(notes) win his first league title.

Before going forward with plans for the series, O’Neal asked the Cavaliers, his fifth pro team, for permission to participate and they granted it.
