respiratory acidic - if greater than 45
respiratory alkalosis - if less than 35

* HCO3 = normal: 22-26
metabolic acidosis - if less than 22 mEq/L
metabolic alkalosis - if greater than 26

AND TO DETERMINE FOR THE PRESENCE OF COMPENSATION:

* UNCOMPENSATED: either PaCo2 and HCO3 side is normal; pH is abnormal
* PARTIAL COMPENSATED : all are abnormal, 2 conditions are similar
