Urbandub dissapreciation thread.

it has nothin to do with the label... i just typed "emo" in there for lack of a better term... i dont want to name bands here... i'm in a band i know the feeling all too well of being labelled as a clone or somethin whebn we were startin out... (we play punkrock and you just can't avoid that even sa punk scene). were keeping the struggle for 7 years now... what i'm trying to say is that a lot of bands here in cebu sounds alot like urbandub nothin more nothin less... at least it's a stepping stone for them (hopefully)... tanan chord pattern na pindot na... tanan beat na gamit na...

Take the drums. If you want to come up with something really new, you'll have to go off-beat. Fact is, urbandub doesn't want too much fancy in their drumming. So do a million other bands.

The guitars. Duplication of chord patterns happens a lot too. For instance, there are lots of songs that go with the chords G-D-C. But John does alot more than just mere power chords and other chord progression.

The vocal. I must admit, some new bands sound alot like Gabby in the album "Birth". But one thing I must laud Gabby-- his vocal arrangement. He's really good at it. So, eventhough some may sound like him, the arrangement sets the differences.

I'm merely implying that there are no exact duplicates of urbandub; that whichever band tries to- fails; that the band doesn't sound better because they were able to afford good production- but because they are good at what they are doing.

yep... i agree... murag vox sa muse ang voice ni gabby... but they're very good thus alot of kids try to duplicate their music... pero la ko ingon na na sundog gyud... mura lang gyud. hehehehe...

To add, dili man sad tanan about sa melody ra. Ang lyrics ni Gabby superb kaayo and Grabe ang chemistry sa Urbandub that's what makes them very good. So what if there are clones, that just goes to say that they like Urbandub. But it's Chemistry within the band which is also the driving force of their success. That is what is lacking in some other bands. You see you can have all the best in a band, the best guitar player, drummer, bassist, singer and all but with out this so called Chemistry you're like fooling yourselves.

I wonder because all the songs in their album is pretty tight, which did Gabby made first. Lyrics or Melody? Hehehe...

You don't have to be foreign or even a foreigner (in the worst case) to sing english songs. I can hardly see any band making songs just for the sake of "sounding foreign". They are what they are, they write what they want to write about.

I haven't heard all of them but I've heard picturefilled, capsule, and faspitch.

Urbandub has a more mellow approach to their songs while those bands lean more on the heavy/hardcore/whateverwatchamaccalit rock genre. And for me, that's what sets urbandub different from the rest, they're not too heavy nor too soft- and they're perfect the way they are. At least to me. hehe
