is that so? they have to settle this. hehehe.

  3. #833
Yeah...this should be settled once in for all. As a Kapamilya, I'm happy that Manny chose to be with ABS as far as covering his next fight is concerned. But, this should be done in a civil and formal way coz now, by the looks of it, most kapusos see him as not-another-inggrata na naman....the usual case with their artists transferring/returning to ABS.

MANILA, Philippines—It wasn’t a smear campaign after all.
The exclusive Philippine Daily Inquirer report, labeled by some as a hatchet job to destroy the financial reputation of Solar Sports, turned out to be true Wednesday after Manny Pacquiao, in the United States training for his next big bout, announced he had signed up with ABS-CBN to telecast his upcoming fights.
The world’s pound-for-pound king made the announcement over ABS-CBN’s TV Patrol Wednesday night, putting an end to several days of speculation that he was ditching old partner Solar Sports for “a giant network” starting with his May 2 bout with Ricky Hatton.
“Nilapitan ko po ang ABS-CBN at nagpasiyang gusto ko sila ulit maging partner (I approached ABS-CBN because I wanted to be their partner again),” Pacquiao said from Los Angeles. “Asahan nyo po na patuloy akong magbibigay ng karangalan sa ating bayan (I assure you I will continue to bring honor to our country).”
Pacquiao’s statement also refuted a report from Solar’s spin doctors that the Inquirer story was a “smear campaign” fabricated by “hatchet men working for ‘special interests’” who are out to destroy the network’s integrity.
It also confirmed the Inquirer exclusive that it was Pacquiao who personally sought a deal with ABS-CBN, though reasons for his split with Solar remained a mystery at this time.
“We are very happy with the decision of Manny Pacquiao to be his partner in future fights including the Hatton fight on May 2,” said Bong Osorio, ABS-CBN head of corporate communications, in a statement Wednesday.
Under the deal with ABS-CBN, the next fights of Pacquiao will be aired over the network and not on GMA-7, which telecast the recent fights of the Filipino ring icon.
Details of the deal, however, remained a secret, though the Inquirer learned from a source—the same one who initially leaked the story to this paper—that the package could amount to something between P120 million and P180 million per fight.
Pacquiao had maintained in several interviews that after Hatton, he plans to retire after one more fight.
Unconfirmed reports said Pacquiao’s move was aimed at helping him in the coming congressional elections next year. In 2006, Pacquiao ran, and lost, for the lone congressional seat in his native General Santos City.
Pacquiao had openly said that he would seek the same spot in Saranggani province, an area where ABS-CBN is dominant.
The status of two Pacquiao shows at GMA-7 now has become uncertain.
The owners of Solar Sports and ABS-CBN met recently where the idea of buying out Pacquiao’s contract from Solar was first broached. The meeting ended in a stalemate after Solar asked to be a block-timer.
The Inquirer learned that Pacquiao had already signed with ABS-CBN as early as Saturday afternoon but asked the network to hold the announcement pending the resolution of several items.
Solar had strongly denied in recent reports that it was about to lose Pacquiao, saying that the cable network had “an iron clad deal” with the fighter that would run until 2012.
Solar vice president for business operations Ralph Roy had also criticized two Inquirer exclusives, saying that the paper painted “a bad picture (of the financial state) of the company.”
In a late-breaking development, Solar Sports reiterated that it still had a legal right to air Pacquiao’s fight.
Solar Sports counsel Enrique Dela Cruz Jr. admitted that they received a letter from Pacquiao terminating the deal but added that they believe the contract is still “valid and binding.”
“Manny Pacquiao and ABS-CBN can’t violate that contract,” De La Cruz told a GMA-7 news program.

Toast to a true Pinoy original

    By Bayani San Diego Jr.
    Philippine Daily Inquirer
    First Posted 19:19:00 03/18/2009

AFTER ALMOST SIX DECADES of entertaining Filipinos, King of Comedy Dolphy reinvents himself as a drama actor in the forthcoming ABS-CBN soap “Utoy.” In this series, he plays a Gepetto-like character to Makisig Morales’ Pinocchio.

Friends and colleagues toast the genius of a true Filipino original.

    Gloria Romero, actress
During our Sampaguita days, he always made me laugh in the middle of a scene. He’s gifted. He’s lovable. He’s not a clown in real life, but when the camera starts grinding, he’s transformed.
    Susan Roces, actress
Dolphy’s Papang and Mamang had a great sense of humor. So does his whole family, to whom laughter comes naturally. There is never a dull moment with him.
    Vilma Santos, actress
He is King because of his originality, hard work, his intellect, and his gift of grace.
    Sharon Cuneta, singer-actress
It is the whole of Dolphy -- the person, the performer -- that has moved all Filipinos to call him King. You cannot become as big a star, as beloved a person if you do not have as big a heart; if you are not resilient in your life’s downs and humble in your life’s ups; if you’re not devoted to your craft; if you’re not generous, kind, human, loving, real.
    Charo Santos, ABS-CBN president
I enjoy talking to him because he has seen the evolution of entertainment.
Ai Ai de las Alas, comedian
He is one of the kindest people I’ve ever met. Humble, sincere, never hides anything. And he’s the first one to approach you pa nga in public.
    Vic Sotto, comedian
He has improved on and polished what he learned from the masters. He has captured the hearts of Filipinos because they relate to his characters.
    Epy Quizon, son
No other comedian in the world has consistently provided his audience with humor for six decades. And he’s still at it. He’s funny because he knows the language of the streets.
    Gil Portes, director
Dolphy was anointed King by his peers. It’s the dream of every comic in the country to follow in his footsteps. Working with him in “Markova,” I was humbled by his humility and respect for fellow workers. He listens to directions without the arrogance of other pseudo superstars.
    Tony Y. Reyes, director
He is King and Cupid. Upon seeing him, you will laugh and fall in love. When I worked with him in “Dobol Trobol,” I found him lovable and witty. He’s the best when it comes to reacting to his co-stars’ jokes.
    Eugene Domingo, comedian
Dolphy is King because he has done stage, radio, television, movies. His charm and versatility are evident in the roles he has played. My favorites are “Jack & Jill” and the classic “John en Marsha.” Apart from comedy, he also does drama well. His work in “Ang Tatay Kong Nanay” is remarkable.
    Jinggoy Estrada, senator
No one can take his crown. He has perfect timing. And when he delivers his lines, he’s unafraid to look funny.
    Bong Revilla, senator
He is real and sincere. His humor comes from the experiences of the common tao. It’s not forced. He mirrors our lives and allows us to laugh at ourselves.
    Bibeth Orteza, biographer
Look how like a king Dolphy walks. How regal. His demeanor, as if to the (manor) born. In fact, the man was born poor. But he hasn’t forgotten his roots. He shaped his comedy from his beginnings. He is loved because he gives love. Small wonder his audience crowned him King.
    Elwood Perez, filmmaker
Dolphy’s humor, in its many incarnations from Glory of the Morning Sunset (“Jack & Jill”) to John Puruntong (“John en Marsha”), has resonated in the Pinoy spirit for generations. As an artist and a personality, he has panache -- which those who trailed him sorely lacked, and which those who are now at the forefront of the medium would do well to emulate.
    Caridad Sanchez, actress
He can make people laugh or cry. I was lucky to work with him in the 1970s.
    Raymart Santiago, actor
He’s in the same league as FPJ (Fernando Poe Jr.) -- respected because he is not just a good actor, but also a good man.
    Claudine Barretto, actress
Tatay is a legend. No one can replace him. His ideas are original. I grew up with him on the set of “Home Along da Riles.” I saw first-hand how quickly his mind works.
    Ruffa Gutierrez, actress
He’s an original. Filipinos grew up watching him, from the lolo to the apo. Everyone loves and respects him. That’s a true King.
    Zsazsa Padilla, partner
I performed with him during the “Dolphy@80 World Tour” last year. People all over the globe adore him! They find him funny because he is your typical Pinoy. You see in his characters someone you know -- your dad, brother, neighbor, husband or friend. I am forever grateful to be part of this extraordinarily gifted man’s life and to be called his partner for life.

    Charice in a Hollywood movie
FUNFARE UPDATE By Ricardo F. Lo Updated March 19, 2009 12:00 AM

Charice at her brand-new condo unit at the Lion’s Park Residences in Parañaque City

FLASH: As we go to press, Funfare Update received a report from its Hollywood DPA that Charice is in the cast of Alvin and the Chipmunks 2, a live action-animation production by 20th Century Fox currently shooting in L.A. and slated to be shown in the Philippines in January 2010. It’s not clear yet what role Charice is playing. She will be on the movie’s set next week when members of the press drop by for a visit.

The five-time Grammy Award-winning and one-time American Music Award-winning animated music group started recording novelty songs in the ’50s. They have been featured in several TV shows and in movies, the latest having been Alvin and the Chipmunks which was released in Dec. 2007, directed by Tim Hill and starring Justin Long in the title role.

A Funfare Update friend saw Charice several days ago in Laguna before she and her mom Raquel flew to L.A. after performing at an event at the Shangri-La Plaza.
“She was speaking with a ‘strange’ voice,” the friend observed. “Now I knew why. She sounded like a Chipmunk. She must have been ‘internalizing’ already.”

Incidentally, Charice and her mom have just moved to their own unit at the Lion’s Park Residences, a 1.9-hectare condominium in Parañaque City, five storeys high in a cluster of 10 buildings. It’s the first real-estate property to be acquired by Charice who has been shuttling between the Philippines and the US where she’s getting juicy offers.

    'I survived' - Ces
    Updated March 19, 2009 12:00 AM

Marami siyang nagawang pelikula noon but she’s best remembered in Bagets na talaga namang nag-hit noon.

Nine years ago nang pumunta siya sa Japan to try her luck at doon na niya nakilala ang ama ng kanyang eight-year-old daughter na si Julynna.

“Pero kahit nandu’n ako, nagbabakasyon naman ako parati sa Manila and when I’m here, I get offers naman na mag-guest-guest sa Tv.

“Pero this time, regular show na talaga ang na-offer sa akin,” sabi pa ng aktres
