    Ninjutsu - also called shinobi-jutsu
is a collection of techniques originally practiced for espionage purposes. It includes methods of gathering information, nondetection, avoidance, and misdirection techniques.
Ninjutsu can also involve training in disguise, escape, concealment, archery, medicine, and explosives. Practitioners of ninjutsu have been seen as assassins for hire, and have been associated in the public imagination with other activities which are considered criminal by modern standards. Even though it was influenced by Chinese spying techniques, ninjutsu is believed by its adherents to be of Japanese origin.

a lot of martial arts are actually inately violent and potentialy deadly. however, the way it is practiced in modern times is subdued as man has become civilized in nature. safety has become a paramount concern of its practitioners as well as health giving benefits. but it doesnt mean that self defence has been forgotten altogether. Different arts adress this differently invarying degress of emphasis as man's reason in practicing martial arts has become varied also. Take note also that not all " fighting arts" arts are martial arts.

    Let me diffrentiate:
Martial Arts: is an organized system of training that is regulated heavily regulated by ethos and code of conduct. Examples of classical martial arts include Karatedo, Taekwondo, Soo Bahk Do, Sikaran, Pencak Silat, Vovinam, Arnis. Scope of practice may include basics, sparring, forms/ patterns, some self defence. training is geared for lifetime.

Self Defence Systems ( SDS): emphasiz practical fighting geared for short term practice. Examples are Hagganah, Krav Maga

Combat Sport: designed solely for one on one competition fighting. examples include boxing, kickboxing, wrestling, MMA. There is less emphasis on martial ethics and codes. practitioners practice for competition. Practical seld defence is also not emphasized.

Its important to understand what ones goal is in practicing so that you will be able to select the art that is appropriate for you.

Muay Thai is a good art but it is a modern evolution of a traditional Thai art. Present Muay Thai gravitates to being a Combat Sport although it certainly is a martial art in itself. However its predessesor, Muay Boran is a Martial Arts were one trains even in self defence, forms and not just fighting. Modern Muay Thai emphasizes ring combat as opposed to Muay Boran which is a way of life.

Well to say that Muay Thai is the most deadly art is someting that must be carefully assessed. Look around thailand and u will notice that most countries have similar arts which is even older than Muay Thai. Examples: Myanmar has Lethwei, Burma has Thaing and Bando, Vietnam has Vo Thuat, Northern Malaysia has Tomoi. They all look so similar to Muay Thai but their tradition of practice strongly reflects that of each countries origin.

The reason why Muay Thai has become popular is because a lot of its fights are going international and has become a medal sport even in SEA Games and Asian Games. Plus there is Ong Bak ( Tony Ja is incidentaly a gymnastis athlete though he has done some training in Muay Boran ).

I highly suggest that we explore the less popular arts of the other countries as well to be able to gain appreciation to the reach culture and tradition of each country and not only ride on the bandwagon kung unsay uso karon nga martial art...

    Hi Dark,

I tried Thai-Boxing before and it mostly like Kick-Boxing, the difference is just the way they use their round-house kick, that knee and elbows are legal and how hard they train in general....
Regarding what you say about Kung Fu then Kung Fu is a general term for all Chinese styles and if you talk about Wing Chun is aimed at self defence, but if you talk about Tai-Chi or Chi/Qi-Gong then is more on the internal like meditation and such.....

Now about Ninjutsu its correct that it include the parts the you said and the unarmed part of Bujinkan is called Tai-jutsu, but Ninjutsu is not a stand alone system is mostly include as parts in other style these days and the Grandmaster of Bujinkan is called Soke Hatsumi, Bujinkan and Soke Hatsumi is the only real Grandmaster all other Schools or styles have roots back to him (like Jinenkan or Genbukan).....
Ninjutsu is also aimed at street defence and effective, done right.....

Else i can only say that i agree with freeflyer04 in most of what he said.....

    Sincerly yours,

I think and this is just what i think from having tried it during the time i did Sports Ju-Jutsu (a mix of Karate, Aikido and Judo), so my insight might not be as large as the ones training Aikido currently....

I think that its good, very technical, but takes a long time to learn compare to many other styles.....
I also see many similarities between the Wind element training within Bujinkan (Ninjutsu) and Aikido....
(i did hear a Aikido student from down here say the same thing).

    Sincerly yours,

    Jan Jensen
