We have grown to believe that gravity is a "pull" force. But have you been considering that it is a "push" force? A centrifugal force in the universe pushes objects away, the reason when we jump, this force pushes us back to Earth.
The Earth's push force is no match against this "universal force", the reason why we stick to the Earth.
Earth' push force and the "universal" push force keeps the moon afloat in space. The same as the sun's push force keeps Earth afloat in space.
I would say this "universal" push force is constant. And I would say that all matter in the universe have built-in "push" force. Proton?
Black holes? If we assume that gravity is indeed a "push force" then black holes are merely a huge matter that lacks this "push" force. When a star dies, it will form black holes. It is because this "push" force is the blood of the universe.
Have it crossed your mind why stars and planets are always sphere in shape? If indeed gravity is a push force then I can explain it to you.
The universal push force "uniformly" acted on the terrestrial body forming a sphere shape. Maybe once upon a time, terrestrial bodies varies in shapes.
Low tide High tide?
The moon "blocks" the universal push force hence, Earth's push force is enough to let the sea level rise.
