Out of the rubble of the San Beda College of Law’s social club Lex Fraternity rose the first true and premier law school fraternity, Lex Leonum Fraternitas. It was born in August 1968 after an unsuccessful and acrimonious attempt by a group of highly spirited juniors to win the election of officers in Lex Fraternity social club. There was a widespread disappointment, frustration and claims of fraud and dishonesty but the questions and issues raised were left unanswered. The following days and weeks were pivotal in the development of the fraternity. The series of meetings and discussions led to a consensus that a new fraternity – one that would stay in the step and be responsive to the needs and aspirations of law students – was formed. Its founders were a group of determined law students bent on creating the only true brotherhood of students in the San Beda College of Law. After consulting with monks from the Benedictine community, a latin name for the fraternity was agreed upon. And so it came to pass that the Lex Leonum Fraternitas (The law of the fraternal lions) was born.

Its establishment is anchored on the goal of producing outstanding men who are champions of their respective endeavors and responsive to the moral cause of social responsibility. The fraternity takes the lion as its icon, symbolizing power through reason, courage amidst difficulties, responsible exercise of authority, wisdom though sound judgment, academic excellence through hard work and leadership by example. These symbolisms represent the core values the brothers of the fraternity have been exercising in the past 40 years. The brothers continue to brighten up the brilliance of Lex Leonum’s light in the field of academe, business, legal profession and public service.
