in short, graveyard shift doesnt really matter as long as you have a healthy lifestyle. as for me, day and night was only made to have a schedule when to rest and when to work.Originally Posted by businessminded

basta complete rest lang jud ka and take vit lang permi...
bahala nah!!!
We might have to wait some more to find the real cause. It's not sure yet if night-shift per se or something incidental to night-shift is causing this.
"The research suggests a correlation between people who work at night and increased cancer rates. But the cause of the cancer might still be something else that people who work at night do that is unaccounted for in the research"

Does this mean, there's more to "graveyard" in the graveyard shift?
How about "night persons," or those who prefer to be awake at late-day or even at night?
for now, kining night shift-cancer link study is more like a hypothesis rather than a concrete fact. its not as established as like, for example, smoking-cancer link. although working night shift has been recently added to "potential cancer risk", it still needs further studies and supporting evidence. and lets not forget that cancer is also greatly influenced by genetic and overall lifestyle.
however, i do believe that the biggest downside about working night shift is the fact that they are unable to sleep during "normal" sleeping time. from my experience, kining matulog tag buntag lahi ra gyud compared sa matulog tag gabii. i dont work night shift but i have tried several tmes staying awake until dawn. i normally sleep about 7 hrs a day and thats already enough to make me feel energetic the following day. but if i sleep during day time, bisan ma tulog pa kog 10 hrs, i always wake up feeling lousy.
even before night shift-cancer link study came out, a good night sleep has always been an integral part of good health. it is during sleep that our body recovers, rejuvenates, restores energy level, makes hormones and enables the brain to process and sort out information. these among many others.
^there, hapsay na jud kaau na pagka explain ni Khitty. ambot ngano defensive man kaau ang mga nag graveyard shift. para ra bitaw na sa inyong kaayuhan.
the point is there is a study or research or whatever. but what if the result this study will eventually come up with says, yes graveyard shift causes cancer, too late. right. ultimately, it's your life and it's going to be your call. no one can force you to believe anything.

really? is this true?![]()
how about working in a call center with graveyard shifts? is this risk for cancer? what kind of cancer?
two points in the article:
1. working graveyard shift MAY disrupt your circadian rhythm. some people cannot sleep during daytime, or instead of sleep get tempted to do other chores (go to the bank or supermarket etc)
2. working graveyard shift reduces melatonin levels in the body. kay ang melatonin kuno ma produce in darkness (dark night's sleep) so kung trabaho kay kada gabii, siyempre exposed ka sa suga permi, then inig buntag when you are supposed to sleep hayag sad. mao na you make your room dark for melatonin production. one time i heard a celebrity say na she has black curtains in her room para ngitngit jud kuno inig tulog niya. weird ni for most people but for me it makes sense. and also, scientists now are trying to come up with lightings na melatonin-friendly.
bottomline: we need sufficient sleep. we also need a sufficient amount of melatonin in our bodies.
na hala patahi na mo black curtains.
