Ang uban gidudahan pa nga ilang tan-aw kang Jesus Christ nga He was the first communist.

Pinoy priest accused of stealing over $.6 M from Virginia churches
    By Lito Katigbak
    The Philippine Star 01/14/2007

WASHINGTON — A Filipino priest has been accused of stealing more than $600,000 or roughly P30 million over the past five years from two small Roman Catholic churches in Virginia.

Steven Neill, spokesman of the Catholic Diocese of Richmond which serves most of the state of Virginia, identified the priest as Fr. Rodney Rodis, 50, of the order of St. Camillus.

Rodis was indicted last Monday on one felony count of embezzlement. He faces trial next week and if found guilty could be jailed for up to 20 years.

Neill said Rodis came from the Philippines in 1991 to work for the diocese and was assigned as pastor of St. Jude church and Immaculate Conception church in central Virginia.

He said the disappearance of the church funds came to light when a St. Jude parishioner made a $1,000 donation and later asked for a receipt for tax purposes. When the money could not be found in the financial record books, officials became suspicious.

Bail for Rodis was originally set at $100,000 but this was later reduced to $10,000 after his passport was confiscated to prevent him from leaving the country, Neill told The STAR.

Rodis retired as pastor of St. Jude and Immaculate Conception for medical reasons in May and said he planned to return to the Philippines, Neill recounted.

Church members described Rodis as a dedicated leader and said they were stunned to learn he had been accused of stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars by funneling church donations into a secret bank account he set up in the church’s name.

"We’ve had people take a few hundred bucks out of the plate, but nothing of this magnitude,’’ said William Etherington, a lawyer for the Richmond diocese. Rodis could not be reached for comment.

You are barking at wrong tree. Why don't you go to the source of the story - Lito Katigbak from Philstar unya ingna cya nganong nanghilabot cya sa mga pari. If we inform the readers here about some news or facts to supplement their knowledge about the wrong doings of some members of the clergy in general, for me it is not a deservice to your fellowmen.

Di man cguro dautan kung i inform nato ang kadaghanan sa uban news items nga maka-ingon ta unusual ba. Gawas pa look inside this forum and it was even encouraged to cite our sources.

Like you motuo sad ko ug gaba. Ang gaba mo resulta na if you are doing something bad. My belief is as simple as that which my mother had taught me since I was a small child. And until now motuo gihapon ko. Ug dunay gibuhat ang pari nga dili mao and I am not doing bad maskig pari pa sila, di man cguro ako ang gabaan. Ang mga kaparian kung manghilabot sa politika moingon sila nga duna silay moral obligation to their flock. If the flock watches their keepers kay duna sad silay moral obligation sa ilang mga kaparian nga magpabuyag di man cguro na gaba?

Unsa may labot sa CBCP kung nag haociao nang pari sa Virginia, USA. Mura man tanan negative about pari i connect nimo sa CBCP.

Mao bitaw nga akong gibutang ug off topic... it may not relate to the CBCP but as a priest from the Philippines duna say gamay nga kapanaminan atong mga readers diha ba. And don't tell nga nasuya ko sa CBCP... unsa may akong kasuyaan nila? Read the posts again ug basin mabasa nimo nga napalpak sila sa ilang gipanghambog nga the mother of all rallies. Ug wala ko mangdaut sa CBCP... like the government they have also become politicians so what is there to destroy? We are just discussing here sa ilang mga negatives kay di man god kaha masayop ang mga taga simbahan ug silay pasultihon? Ug nganong masuko man ka? Obispo ka? O basin nakadawat ka ug kolekta...
