1.portrait
2.landscape
3.zoom lens

For portraits - maski unsa guro focal length pwede depends on what kind of portrait you want but I guess the rest already said that the 24-70, 70-200 are best for this. Pwede pa pang landscape wide end sa 24-70 although not really that wide on a crop. Kung landscape daghan pud choices but it seems the Tokina 11-16 2.8 is the 3rd party of choice (?).

For zoom, always stick with those 1:3 zoom ratios (I can't explain the physics but tinuod man na nindot ni sila, example 70/24 = 2.92, 200/70 = 2.86). The best of course is 1:1 or prime lenses

Good luck with your search. You will find that there's no single best lens (otherwise Nikon and Canon won't be building so many) for all purposes but in time you'll find what is best for you.

hello mga masters..im confused which prime lens to buy as this would be my first prime..i am choosing between the nikkor 35mm/1.8g or the 50mm/1.8g..i like portrait shots, people shots, candid shots, street and doing shots in low light..as both are good in low light..unsai difference sa duha?..also i have the d5100..
