Mosley joins queue of Pacquiao hopefuls
By Edri K. Aznar
REIGNING World Boxing Association welterweight titlist Shane Mosley joined the list of boxers eyeing a fight with Manny Pacquiao and wasted no time in challenging the newly-crowned IBO and Ring Magazine light welterweight champion in a mega clash.
Aside from Mosley, other big names being considered to fight Pacquiao are Miguel Cotto, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and two-time Pacquiao foe Juan Manuel Marquez.

“Let’s get it done,” Mosley told the LATimes.com. “I don’t see a reason why they’d want to fight Cotto when I’m the champion who beat (Antonio) Margarito, who beat Cotto. It’d be a classic fight (against Pacquiao). We both have good hand speed and power and I think that fans want to see the best fight the best.”
Early this year, Mosley scored a ninth-round stoppage over Margarito, who handed Cotto his first professional boxing career loss.
According to Top Rank big boss Bob Arum, Mayweather Jr. will be waiting at the bottom of the line for a fight with the Filipino superstar, as the unundefeated fighter recently signed a bout with Marquez on July 18.
Scared of Manny
“Mayweather just had to wait one day,” said Arum in the post-fight press conference of the “East vs. West” boxing spectacle. “He’s scared of Manny Pacquiao. We’re not going to wait around for Mayweather.”
It will be Mayweather’s first fight since he announced his retirement last year.
Although Arum didn’t say who the next opponent of the 30-year-old, six-division world champion will be, he mentioned two names as his top prospects.
“If Cotto wants to come down a few pounds, we can make that happen. Or we can go with Shane Mosley,” said the veteran boxing promoter.
Both Cotto and Mosley are welterweights and renowned Pacquiao trainer Freddie Roach suggests that if either fighter will meet Pacquiao, it would be at a catch-weight of 143 pounds.
Pacquiao’s last fight was at 140 pounds.
Arum said that Pacquiao will be returning to the Philippines to shoot a movie and then fly back to the US to watch Cotto’s World Boxing Organization title defense against Josua Clottey on June 13 in New York.
While Pacquiao is celebrating in the Philippines, his recent victim, Ricky Hatton, is off contemplating retirement.
Mayweather Sr. has recently told his ward that it is time to retire after his shocking second-round knockout loss against Pacquiao last Sunday.
It was Hatton’s second knockout loss in his last three fights and his first loss at 140 pounds.
However, the Hitman’s father, Ray, said he won’t be pressuring his son to retire and that the decision will all be up to the former champion.
This is the best fight for Pacquiao....nothing beats this.
Dream Match: Pacquiao vs MayweatherPacquiao vs Mayweather. Pound for Pound Supremacy
If a fight between Many “Pac-man” Pacquiao and Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. is to happen, it will certainly have Fight of the Year, or even Fight of the Decade written all over it. “Ther can only be one. Pound for pound.” would be a perfect catchphrase.
The photo above says it all. The Hype. The Drama. The One. The Undisputed. The Greatest.
But one question remains. Who will win?
I put my money on Pac. Are you up for it?
Come fight night, if this will happen. PBF will just do the chicken dance and packy will just decimate him, cguro dli parehas kang hatton nga no contest ang show pero tulog ghapon si PBF ug magdamgo sa LaLa land. hihihihi.
To much hype of PBF. Money ra gi-apas ani. I will go for Marquez. JMM vs. MP.
