Good luck pre! It's nice to know nga determinado jud ka mag trabaho ug oil and gas. Safety Officer is a good field, especially for those are not specialized into engineering.

I've been to shipyards when my previous rig was on upgrade.

just an advise, don't stick to landbase kay wala dinha ang kwarta. naa sa offshore ang kwarta bai after 2 years pwede naka makapangita ug lain. if naay mga opportunities na ipadala kag mga training, kuhaa jud na kay sa training ka magkamahal.

modesty aside pero i started as an operator for an oil company in 2005 and in 2010 i landed into offshore drilling on a 28/28 rotation earning 5 figures (dollars not peso) per month on and off.

naay daghan mga bisaya na safety officer offshore bai, take it from me kay 3 mi ka managsoon naa sa offshore ron and daghan na mig mga barkada naa sa oilfield.

    god bless nimo bro...

Ug ang imo alam PPE lang ug pinch point boring jud ang saftey but it took us years of experience and intensive training ayaw sad tawn ingna na boring. Siguro ang kadto na tao na nag-ingon boring it's because wa to siyay gawas-gawas sa office sige lang inum kape or sige lang ug pa-utog then copy-paste sa mga reports walay inspection-inspection walay audit-audit... or ba kaha boring kay mga itik ang iya mga tao na di makasabot ug english. Mao man gud nay laro sa uban labi na mga itik maayo lang sa sturya pero pangutan-a ug unsay nahibaw-an magpangawt nalang ka gi-unsa pagka safety officer di man gani kamao mo-on sa gas detector.

To be a safety officer dapat kibalo ka dili lang behavioral apil na ang process safety not to mention the latest equipment innovations dili lang kay komo nakatraining naka and you have the certificate saftey officer na dayon ka. At a point I agree na kinahanglan kag technical skills and know how aron ka mahimong effective na saftey officer and dapat you have the "eye" for inspections. Di lalim kung tao nay imo i-handle bai, unlike sa machine or equipment na imo mamandaran ug unsay buhaton and pwede ra nimo ayohon or ilisan, ang trabaho sa safety officer dili routine - everyday is a struggle. Lastly bai dapat kapal-mukha ka kay ikaw ang pirmirong makig-atubang sa mga tao na mo-abot sa installation - sulayi ninyog atubang sa mga regulatory bodies, media, top government auditors, company CEOs, ug uban pang mga dagkog tae ug di ba moabot ang iyong itlog sa inyong utok... there was even an event (I wasn't there though) na ang hari sa Qatar ni-adto sa rig and one of the very few that he was only talking to was the safety officer.

So sa mga naay wrong impression sa HSE na sayon, wait till you have the taste of what it is to be one (kana lang pung klarohay na trabaho ug klaro na company ha - try offshore).

    thanx.
