exactly my point, NBA is a business and it's not about the player nga akong giidolize. and i don't root for a single player, i root a team.
now if you may, read my POV:
i don't question LeBron's skill and talent, i even strongly agree that he should be the MVP this season with what he's showing. but on a business POV, that i can say that he's overrated.
LeBron was virtually a superstar and a celebrity even before he set foot in the NBA. gimarket na siya daan. i bet he was even more popular than Michael Jordan during MJ's rookie year. in his first game, LeBron was all around the headlines and when he made a steal and made his first NBA dunk, it was like, "LeBron made his first NBA dunk" in the headlines all around the world. natural kung ako negosyante, sakyan gyud nako si LeBron. ESPN talks a lot about him: ratings, Nike endorsing him so much for revenues as well as sports magazines, and even Jay-Z markets him with the intention of landing him at New Jersey. how many players does Nike have in their contract? daghan but si LeBron ang nahatagan ug taas nga priority in terms of marketing. it's not about how good he is, it's about the hype going way back when he was still a rookie. and now he markets himself for the free agency when his contract runs out. "off season 2010 is going to be a very busy one", klaro na kaayo iyang pasabot. we can't blame the kid, he's got ambition, to become the first billionaire athlete. siguro kung si Kobe or CP3 ang moingon ana nga linya magkabuang pud ang NBA, mosikat pa gyud sila ug samot.
that is why i don't buy stats and highlights because a lot of other players can also do that. Chris Paul and Dwight Howard also tops the charts just like James. Josh Smith and Rudy Gay can dunk as good as LeBron. mao ra na ang kasagaran nakita sa mga tao. well, we can't blame them because mao ra man ang naa sa TV.
that's why overrated and overhyped siya because of the attention and all the moohlahs that thrown to him wala pa kaayo siyay naachieve nga significant kaayo like winning a title or an MVP man lang. the last time i remember somebody going that high was Shaquille O'Neal with the Lakers with an MVP and a title already. mao nang makaingon ko nga di pa kaayo siya deserving sa kataas sa hype nga gihatag niya. i know he is heading that way with his skills and talent, makadaog man gyud na siya ug title or MVP sooner or later eventually. but skills and talent alone is not enough. leadership and maturity is a very important factor too. i think he still has to learn some things about those 2.
the reason why i say that he is overrated is because it's also unfair to some players. if he gets that kind of hype, then other rising stars should too. for example, Paul and Howard should be on that level too.
