A must ang safer, better ventilated venue.

congrats to the UC basketball team for winning game 5 and ultimately being crowned as the champs! The "new" Cebu coliseum was filled to the rafters and to the sidelines including the back of the goal! The game earlier was the closest to a UAAP atmosphere type. On the side, people were heckling UC's main man #15 JuneMar Fajardo, they called him so many nick names but the funniest one was someone shouting Fajardo murag lapis with his uniform color and all.hahah! nice to see fans trooping to watch collegiate ball!

Tomorrow will be a different type of game as the SHS-AdC will battle the perennial force in Cebu basketball, UV baby lancers! Hopefully fans will still pack the venue and the festive air will still be there!
    Go Eagles!

    Duwa karon
5:30 pm- SHSJ batok UV (jrs. Game 5)

    Puntos kada usa

    UC (70)-Fajardo 23, Heruela 11, Auditor 8, Bercede 8, Pao 6, Ampoon 2, Mohammad 2

    SWU (64)-Pacquiao 18, Nalos 11, Guillena 9, Aboude 9, Armecin 6, Arong 1.

UC battles it out vs. SWU in a neck-and-neck game amidst wild crowd in Cesafi’s final game By Edri K. Aznar

    Tuesday, November 8, 2011

BEHEMOTH center Junemar Fajardo broke out from a third-quarter scoring slump with an astonishing fourth-period performance to lead the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters to a come-from-behind 60-54 victory over the Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras.

They retained the crown in the collegiate division of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) basketball tournament at the jam-packed Cebu Coliseum last night.

Fajardo was scoreless in the third, but he made up for it by scoring 12 of his team-high 23 points for the Webmasters.

SWU was successful in fending off the dominant Fajardo in the third, forcing him to turn over the ball or intercepting the passes to him by his teammates. However, in the fourth quarter, with UC down, 35-38, Fajardo dominated the paint and scored the first 10 points of UC and trimmed down the lead to just a point, 45-46, with a pair of free throws.

Edward Pao and Luigi Bercede took over where Fajardo left off in the waning minutes of the final game of the championships.

    Close

With 2:30 seconds on the clock, Pao, who had a dismal game all night long, hit a crucial three-pointer to tie the game at 52. Bercede then gave the lead to UC, 54-52, after a layup. Rene Pacquiao retaliated with a 15-footer to tie the game at 54. Pao, who only had six points in the game saved the best for last and sank another shot from beyond the arc for a 57-54 advantage.

Bercede then shot both his charities with just 15.8 seconds left for a 59-54 cushion and sealed the fate of the Webmasters.

Brian Heruela added 11 points, while Bercede had eight. Rene Pacquiao led SWU with 18.

“We have the same personnel, but we won because of the breaks of the game. It was the difference. We had a run near the end of the game with the two three-point shots of Pao and the free throws of Luigi,” Roehl Gomez said moments after UC captured the back-to-back championships.

    Stopped

The game had a brief halt at halftime after there were too many spectators inside the Cebu Coliseum that the crowd reached court-side. The thrilling game was also stopped near the end of regulation after SWU coach Raul “Yayoy” Alcoseba confronted UC assistant coach Jobers Samonte.

Fajardo was awarded the MVP after the game. He was also included in the collegiate division’s mythical five along with teamates Bercede and Brian Heruela, and SWU’s Eleazar Armecin and Pacquiao.
