Settings > Audio Profiles > General > Notification Ringtone > Music > Select your preferred tone

when you press Music, all your audio files in your phone will be listed, once you have selected, click OK.

so make sure your audio file is in a supported audio format, or it cant be selected.
and set your profile to General.
try it, thats the correct way to do it..
if you dont believe me, well, its up to you.

my message alert tone is Rock You like Hurricane.

the default messaging app is not that advanced to give you group messages. the best thing it can do is send message up to 20 persons at a time. do that by checking each of their contact details.

although, third-party apps can do this easily..
i use GO SMS Pro. it has a group for contacts.
