    GenSan Awarded One of the Country’s “Most Competitive Mid-Sized Cities” for 2007

    In a simple ceremony on July 4, 2008, at the Grand Ballroom of the Intercontinental Hotel in Makati City, Gen. Santos City was again awarded as Most Competititve Mid-Sized City of the Philippines along with six others in the Philippine Cities Competitiveness Ranking Project 2007 of the Asian Institute of Management Project Center. Receiving the award was GenSan City Mayor Pedro Acharon, Jr.

    This is the 3rd time that the Tuna Capital was accorded such honors by the Asia Institute of Management Policy Center. The first time was in the year 2000 when it was the Most Competitive City in the Philippines and two years later, when it was ranked as the Most Competitive Mid-Sized City.

    This year, however, among a field of 35 contender-cities, it has to share the title with six other medium-sized cities. And so, for 2007, the country’s most competitive cities in alphabetical order are:

    * Cabanatuan City
    * General Santos City
    * Lucena City
    * Olongapo City
    * San Pablo City
    * Tagum City
    * Tarlac City

    The awardees for the Most Competitive Metro Cities in alphabetical order are:

    * Davao City
    * Makati City
    * City of Manila
    * Marikina City
    * Lapu-lapu City
    * Quezon City

    And lastly, the Most Competitive Small-Sized Cities in alphabetical order are:

    * < ![endif]–>

    < ![endif]–>

    * Bayawan City
    * Calapan City
    * Calbayog City
    * Dagupan City
    * Dipolog City
    * Laoag City
    * Malaybalay City
    * Naga City
    * San Fernando City (La Union)
    * Surigao City
    * Tagbilaran City
    * Tuguegarao City

    (Unluckily, the former topnotcher of 2005, Koronadal City is nowhere in this small-sized city list. What could have happened?)

    Anyway, to all the generals and the city officials, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! May this serve as another incentive for everyone to continue to make each year and not just this year a YEAR OF EXCELLENCE.

    MABUHAY TAYONG LAHAT!! (You may write your CONGRATULATORY MESSAGES below. )

    Wala'y perfekto diri of course, bisan Davao with its accolades and evidences of being one of most livable city cannot claim to be free of criticism. But if there are attempts to pull it down in unjust, inaccurate and malicious manner usa lang ma-assure, we will not tolerate or kunsentehon ang mga offending culprits and it's evident ipaglaban sa Dabaw ilang katungod. Kung moanhi or mag comment man lang nga dili kabalo morespeto sa among lugar or sa isigkatao, dili kinahanglanon diri ang mga ingon ana para lang maghugaw-hugaw.

    Maayo para namo puy-an ang Davao, and we're not interested convincing those that don't believe it or sow malice against it, but we will do what we should to those that offended it for a taste of what they deserve.

    Kabalo na man tanan nga labaw man gyud ang Cebu sa urbanidad. We Davaoenos are not war freak. Kabalo lang mi mu lugar sa amung syudad. We do not dispute that Cebu is way ahead of Davao in terms of urbanity. Dili na mi makig lalis ana. Kumbaga, stick lang mi sa facts. We will not dispute if we see actual proof.

    bro we are not talking about perfections here...
    i know what you mean bro, but it doesn't mean that you have to retaliate...you can always have the choice not to do that even if giunsa pag describe sa davao...

    THIS NOT ONLY GOES TO DAVAO' BUT ALSO TO CDO'...

    if you're smart your gonna get my point....
    granting they have insulted your place...you have the right to what ever respond you may...
    but think of the effect not only to your city but as well as for those who lived in that city...
    if you think your place is good enough for foreign people, then show it, not with those man made structures, which are all temporary, but with what kind of people living in that place....
    worth it neighbors are those who settle arguments in peaceful manners....

    its good to defend our native home cities and fight for it if we have to but as long as there is way to avoid conflicts, avoid it....WE ARE ALL PINOYS!!!

    Nya saon mn ta nang nindot lagi, progressive lagi, pero ang mga kinaiya sa emong silingan isog kaau! mura ug mga war-freak! hehehe

    opinion ra pud na nako. Base ra pud na sa mga posts dri.. From page 1 to the current page.
    Mutuo pud ko sa giingon nimo nga nindot nga lugar, mao nang basta makita nako usa ka lugar bisan pa pila highises or malls or heavy industries, kung hugaw kaayo palibot di maayo gyud impression nako anang lugara. Kay bisan murag ginagmay lang na nga issue, dako kaayo implication ana because it shows the quality of people living there nga murag kulang sa disiplina and wala'y concern sa environment.

    Lahi ra man nang war-freak kung ma-misunderstood sa taong nagbarog sa prinsipyo. Davao had actually achieved one of the most, if not the most peaceful city in Asia(last time I checked 2nd siya in all Asia next to a Pakistani city). The cameraderie of Christian, Muslim and Lumad Dabawenyos here is very strong for the sake of peace, there was even a time when these people hugged and each other and even cried to show support for the city during its most trying times. Aron masabtan unsa kalahian sa war-freak og sa may gibarugan nga prinsipyo, then pagkat-on ug prinsipyo.
