A bunch of 7-footer imports may once again play in the PBA this season. The PBA board is considering to scrap out the height restrictions for imports. Other than the height restrictions, the PBA might also impose the "handcapping" for the teams that will occupy the last two places in the preceding tournament to give balance to the league. For the last 2 teams, other than the first import, they can hire another one who stands below 6'1.

The last time the PBA had giant imports was during the 2004-05 season where in 7'0 Earl Barron, 6'9 Anthony Miller, and 7'1 Lorenzo Coleman saw action for Red Bull, FedEx and Purefoods respectively.

    Recent PBA news

    Air21

Air21 management will know within the week whether former PBA MVP and Ginebra playing coach Robert "Sonny" Jaworski Sr. will coach the team. As of the moment, the 60-year old Jaworski is in USA undergoing an operation on his shoulder injury.

Aside from bringing in more experience from Jaworski, Air21's aim is to widen it's fan base.

    Ginebra

Ginebra signed 6'2 La Salle forward JR Aquino in a one year contract. Jong Uichico chose Aquino because of his diligence in practice and because of his work ethic. Aquino will be filling in the position left by Rudy Hatfield.

Good news for Ginebra fans, Rafi Reavis is set to return after his shoulder operation. Weeks ago, Reavis whereabouts were unknown and there were speculations whether the 6'8 center will return to the Ginebra line-up. Other than Reavis, Johnny Abbarientos has signed with Ginebra for another year. Both Eric Menk and Jayjay Helterbrand are also set to return after their USA vacation.

    Red Bull

In their quest in finding a quality big man to fill in the big void left by Enrico Villanueva and the injury to Richard Alvarez who will be possibly out for 5 months, the Red Bull is eyeing on former Barako Homer Se. Rumors circulating that Air21 will let go of Se if the Barakos will give them last season's revelation Carlo Sharma which for sure will not get the approval of Red Bull coach Yeng Guiao. Only Mick Pennisi and Carlo Sharma are Red Bull's legit big men left for now.

    Talk N' Text

The Talk N' Text Phonepals are considered b most of the coaches as the "team to beat" this season. Air21's Bo Perasol, Red Bull's Yeng Guiao, Ginebra's Jong Uichico and Welcoat's Leo Austria have all expressed their thoughts about Talk N' Text. The return of Jimmy Alapag, Asi Taulava and Renren Ritualo will definitely further bolster the Phonepals chances who made it last season with the sudden emergence of Mark Cardona and Jay Washington. And considering Jimmy Alapag's play during the FIBA Asia qualifiers, TnT is definitely a team to watch.

Latest news is that Jeffrey Cariaso has signed for a two-year extension with the Alaska Aces and possibly might end his career with the team where he started. The Alaska management is looking forward to rely heavily on the veteran Cariaso along with the returning Mike Cortez and last season's PBA MVP Willie Miller for it's quest for the franchise's 13th PBA title. On the other hand, Ginebra still continues it's search for a good post player. The Gin Kings coach Jong Uichico had openly admitted that the team will be lagging behind other teams because they don't have a deep frontcourt, except for Eric Menk and Rafi Reavis. A foiled trade should've sent Nic Belasco or Don Allado to Ginebra. Belasco had a change of heart and has decided to stay with Welcoat wherein he's got a chance to become the team's star after being a role player all through out his career while Allado on the other hand signed a deal worth P12.6M good for the next three years with the Phone Pals. Talk N' Text is willing to send Allado to Ginebra but in exchange for the more athletic and energetic Rafi Reavis.
