AntiVir
Free antivirus - Avira AntiVir
- Really light, effective anti virus. Make sure you activate heuristics and set it at medium, to better detect zero-day threats. Just quite annoying everytime it updates; it always has that annoying popup telling you to get the premium (read: paid) version. Updating it offline is also a big problem, as it just can't be done.
AVG Free
AVG Free - Download AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition for Windows XP and Vista
Version 8.0 is better than the previous ones. Again, make sure to activate heuristics to detect zero-day threats. It has this link-scanning feature which I find quite annoying.. just turn it off.
ClamWin
Free Antivirus for Windows - Open source GPL virus scanner
Free, Open-Source (yay!) antivirus. Unfortunately, it does not support real-time scanning (unless you fiddle with Winpooch), and will probably support it in a future release.
ڤيكتور البَرت جَبيلاغين
Try avira: Free antivirus - Avira AntiVir
I came from AVG to this. I prefer it to AVG, since it seems to be more effective.
Actually it can be done.
Step 1:
Download: Incremental AntiVirus Update - IVDF and VDF update info
Step 2:
Open Avira and then click "Update" and then click "Manual Update," after that point to the file downloaded from the link in Step 1 and then "let it rip."
The downside to this though is hassle mag cge download2x ug updates. Although 21mb ra man hinuon ang file.![]()

I've been closely monitoring 3 FREE anti-virus for the last 4 years namely: avg, avast and antivir. avast is still the best, 2nd is avg 3rd is antivir because of its high false positives. antivir used to be fast back in 2005 but their last 2 major releases consume more memory and cpu than the other 2 AVs. offline update of AVG is a hell. outlook email scanning is good. what i dont like with avast is that you have to re-register yearly to get updates unlike avg. so if you know how to install software and can do configurations, go with avast. if you dont know how, get avg. if you dont have internet connection, use avast because you can download update and it's easy to install unlike avg's crappy 'bin' file. for win me and below, antivir is good. i installed it on my uncles ancient pc.
clamwin is good for manual scanning. if you have internet connection, use bitdefender, it's the best free online scanner that will remove those pests. i have been using it for about 2 years with workstations and servers. check this out - Anti-Virus Software Review 2008
by the way, nod32 is a big joke. dont bother testing it. it's a waste of time. do you want to test your antivirus? visit porn sites and crack sites without deepfreeze installed. you'll see.![]()
Try avast! Home Edition and Threatfire![]()
the latest versions of avg & avast will not run on windows xp pro sp1. ni try ko ug install. tsk tsk tsk. i will try antivir.
about threatfire, it's nice but heavy. hinay man gud akong PC.hehe. 512MB ra.
