SM Malls ug mga Gaisano ra ang na threatened sa presence sa S&R since "some" who seek to buy high end products from their Malls might become S&R regulars.

Many retailers were happy when Makro opened with their bulk and wholesale promos. Even retailers from
the neighboring provinces came to shop. But SM and Gaisano Malls offered almost the same price without forcing customers to buy in bulk. That changed the scenario.

I was privy to the sale of the Makro lot and that is 3 hectares they bought outright from the Aboitiz group. Then Wallmart came to conduct due diligence to compete with Makro. I toured Wallmart Execs around the Cities of Talisay, Cebu, Mandaue and Mactan. Afer a week they concluded that they can compete with Makro but can't compete with the Gaisano Malls which are stratigically located in every entry and exit point everywhere. A wallmart exec commented Makro will not last more than 5 yrs with their current set up. True indeed SM Mgt took over Makro and changed a lot of the former Makro policies. No more membership, Credit Cards are now welcome, Kids can now shop with their parents among others.

The entry of S&R is different, completely different. Kinsa to naa ra kuarta, mao ra to malipay sa S&R.

now that S&R is there, do you think that is a good move? not to mention Parkall, whose grocery is controlled by SM.....

Parkmall and SM caters the masses while SnR caters the upperclass... No competition there...

as for comments with the makro hypermart venture. i really don't know if it's a good thing or not.
makro imho is still doing "ok". large food service institutions are still coming there and buying in bulk.
i for one go to makro.
makro's price on meat and poultry is still one of the lowest in cebu city.

compared it to s&r last week. makro is still 8 to 15 pesos cheaper per kilo.

excuse me sir.... their doritos costs 10 pesos less than SM... so, you stand corrected there...

anyway, i guess what i am trying to say is that "I" don't want to pay a "membership" to shop there.... holy crap................

yeah... i paid makro's membership fee before of 125.... i think which is reasonable... 700?

most people i know won't pay for it...

i'd have to buy 100 doritos para mabawi ang 700 membership...
