FROM THE basketball court to the parking lot.
Red Bull’s Enrico Villanueva and Joseph Yeo of Coca-Cola brought their long-running feud outside the Big Dome last night after both players clashed in full view of the fans, Araneta Coliseum security and ABC Sports personnel.
Sketchy reports have it that Villanueva threw a punch intended for Yeo that landed on Coca-Cola slotman Michael Gavino’s temple following a piercing exchange of words between the two protagonists during the game won by the Bulls.
PBA commissioner Noli Eala has summoned Villanueva and Yeo on Tuesday to explain why they should not be sanctioned for their actions.
“Without prejudging the incident, this is regrettable,” said Eala. “It’s obviously a conduct unbecoming a professional. We will not tolerate this.”
Eala declined to comment about the possible penalties involved but Philippine Basketball Association insiders said both players would receive stiff sanctions from the commissioner.
“We’re still gathering data. I’ll say something about it once we finalize our investigation,” said Eala.
The altercation actually started last year when Yeo hit Villanueva with a closed fist during the PBA-sanctioned Ateneo-La Salle charity game. Since then, both players made sure to get physical every time they meet on the basketball court.

Bulls win; Rico, Yeo trade blows

MICK Pennisi turned up the heat in the third quarter and the Manny Pacquiao-inspired Red Bull Barakos came away with a 95-67 plastering of the Coca-Cola Tigers last night in the Talk N Text-Philippine Basketball Association Philippine Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.
Pennisi hit 16 points, all of it during a decisive third quarter breakaway which enabled the Barakos to join Barangay Ginebra and the Purefoods Chunkee Giants in second spot with their seventh triumph in 11 matches.
Red Bull coach Yeng Guiao said their victory on a day Pacquiao scored a knockout win over Erik Morales in the third round was a good omen for the team. He said he had the same feeling of ecstasy when the Barakos also won on the day Pacquiao beat Oscar Larios at the Araneta Coliseum.
“Masarap sabayan ang panalo ni Pacquiao. Parang double victory. So, this morning, we felt ecstatic,” said Guiao.
As both teams were leaving the Big Dome, the Bulls’ big man Enrico Villanueva and the Tigers’ ace Joseph Yeo got into a verbal confrontation outside the gate going to the parking lot. The shoutfest led into a scuffle with Villanueva suffering a gash on the neck and Yeo nursing a head wound. The two were at each others’ necks during the game, and the altercation was said to have extended after the match. Yeo’s teammate Michael Gavino was said to have also joined the fray after initially preventing the two from trading blows.
The Bulls’ triumph came following back-to-back setbacks they suffered in the hands of Air21, 74-81, and San Miguel Beer, 78-84.
A layup by Pennisi off Rich Alvarez’s pass signaled the start of the Bulls’ big run with 6:26 to go.
The Tigers dropped near the bottom of the standings with their 3-7 win-loss slate, and are now suffering their longest losing skid of four losses since May early this year.
A lot is in store for the tigers, with the new format of the philippine cup, for sure mka recover pani sla.... di lang jud kau competitive ila line up, ila legitimate center i guess is ali peek only which stands about 6'4".....
