and defensive prowess ni Sunday is sometimes not given much credit since mas ma notice nato ang iya shooting. Sunday is no patsy in defense and can batter defend players bigger than him. He is also an underrated rebounder
I hope Darius Rice will not be a disappointment in the PBA. He's one of the better imports this conference, probably second to Adam Parada. His 52 points in the NDBL is no joke and he has been a proven scoring machine in the NBA Summer League.
I'm looking forward for Rice giving a shot at the scoring records Tony Harris has set. .
But first things first, as much as I root for Rice among all imports this season, I hope Magnolia will finally do good this season and live up to the expectations. They've got a PBA tested and proven import in Jameel Watkins and key additions in Marc Pingris, Mike Cortez, and Ken Bono.
grabeh ni rice oi, bugas gyud.hehehe..50 plus man first game pa.siya ra gyuy ni dala sa ofens sa pure foods.
Darius Rice finished with 56 points in his PBA debut but Purefoods needed 2 OTs to defeat Magnolia. Rice's 56 point output was the first 50-point game by single player since Asi Taulava scored 51 in Talk 'N Text 131-105 win over Purefoods on May 26, 2004. No player has scored at least 60 points in a single game since Shell import Askia Jones finished with 60 on November 4, 2001 against Sta. Lucia. The last time an import scored at least 50 points was on April 25, 2004 where Sta. Lucia import Derek Brown finished with 57 points in a 99-120 losing effort against the San Miguel Beermen.
Rice scoring 56 in his very first game is something, I guess a lot of scoring records are in the line now, even Tony Harris' standing record of 105 points in a single game. Rice's 56 was the second highest output in the Fiesta Conference after Brown's 57 and is also the second highest scoring output for a debuting import after Mobiline's Jerod Ward in a 93-87 win over Ginebra in the 2001 Commissioner's Cup.
"That's all?" was Rice's reply after he was told about his total output in the game.
Jameel Watkins did good in his Magnolia debut too, finishing with 23 points and 18 rebounds before fouling out. Dondon Hontiveros did great finishing with team high 29 points. The good thing about Magnolia is that they were still able to give Purefoods a hard time even though they have one of the best and overhyped imports in the Fiesta Conference.
