Personally, I hated the way that this impeachment case started out. In just one day, na-process na ang impeachment?! Kahinumdom gyud ko atong adlawa na pag buntag, rumor pa lang ang impeachment. Pag-abot sa gabii, impeached na si Corona. That was crazy. Para nako, hilaw gyud kaayo siya sa sugod pa lang. That's why I understand where Joker Arroyo and Miriam Defensor-Santiago were coming from in their acquittal speeches.
Swerte lang ang prosekusyon since the evidence eventually went in favor of them, especially with CJ Corona's testimony. And the walkout by CJ Corona simply made things worse for him.
Now I'm not a trained lawyer, so basin naay mga legal flaws na dili nako mabantayan dinhi sa trial. But I just hope that in future impeachment cases, dili buhaton sa mga congressmen ang gibuhat nila na kalit-kalit na impeachment ni Corona. Next time, I hope the process would work properly and people don't resort to the one-day impeachment tactic.
I was often lulled into thinking that was not an impeachment, but a bunch of candidates making their pitch at an election forum.
Until of course transparency measures are implemented and the laws specified, there is not yet a victory over corruption. Sugod pa ni, now that you have convicted somebody, act on it--This is only a pseudo-victory for "good governance". The real victory is still out of reach. I'd hate to see our politicians, after this impeachment, not following up on this cornerstone, not making a clamor to change the system, but using the impeachment for their own agendas and advancement.
Corruption in this country is the product of the law's ambiguity. That means, the ambiguity of the law is among the roots of corruption. Believe me when I say this, but it would be counter-productive if we tried to convict/impeach every single grafter out there without fixing the law.
"The remedy is not jurisdiction, the remedy is legislation" -Sen. Joker Arroyo

sir how can a law be fixed if the law itself was made with flaws since the lawmakers has own agendas?
well i was aware and i believe that we all are aware from the beginning that this impeachment was totally bollocks... and we all see that those who signed the impeachment papers are known for positive/negative political backgrounds.. what can we expect with fixing the constitution if these lawmakers mind aren't fixed?
i believe that if you want to fix a broken country, you must forgive the people who have made this country wrong in the first place... why don't Pnoy start forgiving the past then move on to Future and start it's good governance?
All countries have ambiguous laws, that's why the British invented purposive interpretation. FCDU and SALN law aren't ambiguous just because the defense says so, they chose an interpretation that would kill the purpose of the SALN law when as Enrile mentioned there's a better interpretation that would preserve both laws. Miriam was flat out wrong and her walking out was just another display of her sheer arrogance because she didn't get her way and her shitty interpretation was smacked down by the presiding officer.
I guess Miriam's genius is in making people like you and others here believe that she has no political agenda. And to that, I'd have to laugh my ass off. Come back to reality dudes... Miriam ain't the virgin mary of politics
When I say ambiguous laws, what is meant is it is conflicting. While I agree, all countries have ambiguous laws, this country has an excess of it. If you'd rather like to have your politicians sugar-coat what they say, then you are welcome to it. You obviously didn't understand Miriam's point--that it is the fault of conflicting laws. You guys are always crying "technicalities", but it is also the technicalities that are saving you from government to shove down everything they want into your throats. Not all technicalities are bad. There has been no precedence deeming the FCDU law as unconstitutional nor was it amended, and as far as I know, a law remains to be a law unless repealed. If it's your condition to 'dislike' her for her outburst, then you and me alike. I do, however, think that she has a point--agendas and whatnot aside. I'm not arguing with the verdict, I'm saying you cannot completely lay the blame on Corona, even though he is definitely at fault, a part of that blame goes to the law and lawmakers itself.
