Besides, I am very interested with how it would come out-- especially with the Cebuano culture and all (call it a personal interest as well). I will be doing my research as well on this and if I do get something, I'll let you know. Maybe it can be of use in your project.
So anyway, best of luck to your goal! Well, if we won't do the pushing, I'm sure fate will.... There are a lot of Accounting stories yet to taunt you. hehehehe...
Thanks! I had some progress during the Christmas break. Btw, the project you are mentioning--would my effort fall within its scope? Is it submittable?

Here are the outlines I came up with. I plan to use my own experiences and the experiences and history of friends and relatives as "templates" for the histories (tapolan ko mag research...). Could I ask for your help to see whether the histories of my characters are realistic (e.g., their lifestyles, biases, ages, etc.). For instance, I don't know of any ancestor who belong to the late 19th century urban bourgeoisie of Cebu (my main character's paternal grand-mother is supposed to be so). If you have ancestors with this background, perhaps you can share their history

Here's a mindmap. I don't see it in the preview, so in case it does not show, here's the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:T...leoutline2.JPG

I do write about Martial Arts (most of the time). Here's my new blog and I will be updating it from time to time.

I'm just wondering if anybody here knows any contacts for a magazine or any published write-ups. I would really love to contribute.

    Yoohoo, how is everyone?

I must confess I haven't been actively writing these past weeks. Although I did make a New Year's resolution to write at least 5 poems and 5 short stories this year. *sigh*

It's been 2 months since I started writing professionally but I've been a writer by heart for as long as I remember! Though, it's not as exciting as I first thought it would be. I work at home so the pc is the only one I talk to most of the time. It gets boring sometimes but the up side to it is I get to wake up when I want to, work when I want to and I don't have to wear any drab uniforms.

I'm doing quite well, I believe. I'm living my dream and what more could I ask for? I don't know if I'll be a freelance writer for long but I'm enjoying it as much as I can.

37th International Letter Writing Contest launched

    — Jasmin R. Uy/MEEV

    Thursday, February 21, 2008

The Philippine Postal Corporation and the Universal Postal Union based in Berne, Switzerland recently launched the 37th International Letter Writing Competition based on the belief that letter writing is one of the indispensable tool in developing love, friendship and strong family ties.

The competition, which is centered on the theme “Write a letter to someone to tell him/her why the world needs tolerance”, is open to students and out-of-school-youths for them to assist in the promotion of better understanding around the world through the post office.

Likewise, it was learned through PhilPost announcements that the competition aims to “create a world in which all people shall live in harmony, a noble goal wherein each and everyone can aspire.”

Further, the contest aims to spread awareness on the significant role PhilPost plays in our society and to foster affection for writing letters in spite of the existence of the more modern communication facilities such as mobile phones and the Internet.

Relative to the contest, it was bared that automatically, the first prize winning entry on the national level will qualify for the UPU international letter writing competition to be held in Switzerland. Hence, PhilPost regional information officer Josephine Layco invites students and OSYs who are15 years and below to take part in this letter writing tilt.

Aspirants to said contest should be citizens of the Philippines. Their composition must be recent, original, written in English, between 500 to 1,000 words in length, and may be handwritten or typewritten. On a separate sheet, the participant must indicate the total number of words of the letter composition, complete name and address, gender, age and date of birth, 2x2 colored ID picture, name of school and address, grade level, and contact numbers.

The first prize winner will receive P15,000; P10,000 for second prize; and P5,000 for third prize, plus other recognitions.

Deadline for submission of entries is on April 10. Entries should be sent via postal mail only. For further details, one may call or visit PhilPost-7 in Mandaue City.
