Karen 1st Pinay Media speaker at Harvard confabCheers to ABS-CBN’s Karen Davila for being the first Filipino media speaker invited to the Harvard Project for Asian and International Relations (HPAIR) held last Feb. 19 and 22 at Harvard University in Boston, Massachusettes. This year’s theme was “Linking Minds: Challenges in the 21st Century Asia.”
“It’s a big honor,” said Karen who was among last year’s TOYM (The Outstanding Young Men), for Broadcast Journalism. “I was happy to share my knowledge and experience to a diverse group of students who I know will someday be the world’s leaders and movers. I represented not only ABS-CBN but the whole country. Nakakataba ng puso talaga.”
Of the 300 delegates accepted to the HPAIR conference this year (1,000 others from all over the world were on the wait list), six came from the Philippines — Sheehan Joy Laguindam (Ateneo de Davao), Jeanne Burdeos (University of San Carlos), Althea Acas (UP Diliman, Law), Angelo Miciano (University of Asia & the Pacific), Aleem Guipal (Asian Institute of Management) and Diether Ocampo for KIDS Foundation.
“Most of the other delegates came from China, Japan, Korea, Pakistan, India, Germany, Austria and other parts of Europe,” said Karen.
In its 18-year history, the HPAIR has held economic and business conferences in different parts of the world. Since it began in 1991, HPAIR has become the premier venue for the discussion of issues pertinent to the Asia-Pacific region and their effects around the world.
It’s only the second year that Harvard hosted the conference. Aside from Karen, experts and practitioners from around the world were invited to speak on issues regarding security, health, education, economics in Asia, the environment and gender equality.
Karen was the final speaker for the Social Policy workshop, on Gender Equality for Women in Asia.
“During my talk,” recalled Karen, “I showed documentaries from our show The Correspondents, revolving around issues about women.”

UNDEFEATED
MEN and women in uniform from the Philippine Army, Navy and PNP were featured in "The Singing Bee" last Saturday but they were not able to defeat defending champs, Side A Band: Naldy, Ned, and lead vocalist Joey Generoso. Last Sunday, the contestants were athletes: basketball stars Arwind Santos, Paul Artadi and Ronald Tubid; boxers Onyok Velasco, Milan Melindo and Z Gorres; taekwondo jins Donny Geisler, Toni Rivero and Japoy Lizardo; including representatives from Team Dancesport and Team Lady Maroons from the UP Diliman Volleyball team. The UP team led by their vocalist Ma-an trounced the boxers and dance sport representatives, but they were not able to defeat the Side A Team who scored well in the Tina Arena song, "Burn". This is sad for the UP girls since they aim to use the P2 million prize for the recuperation of their injured teammates. Still, they were able to take home P80,000.
Host Cesar Montano wants to remind viewers that they can also win cash prizes in the Singing Bee A or Bee text promo. Just answer the question the week then text BEE <letter of your answer> to 2366 and you can win up to P20,000. The Singing Bee airs after Komiks Presents: Flash Bomba on Saturday and Sunday after Goin' Bulilit on ABS-CBN.

SECOND CHANCE FOR RUSTOM, ERR, BB
THE first time Rustom Padilla joined "Kapamilya Deal Or No Deal" as a contestant, he wasn't so lucky. But now, he gets the second chance to join it again in his new person, BB Gandanghari and will his new identity give him better luck? We'll find out in "Kapamilya Deal Or No Deal" tonight on ABS-CBN after "Mischievous Princess" as Rustom aka BB is the special guest. He (rather, she) was wearing black skinny jeans, red boots and a very feminine top when she taped the episode, prompting someone to quip: "Mas slim at sexy pa siya kay Kris Aquino, huh! Baka ma-insecure ang host ng show!"
BB really looked stunning in her womanly getup so it's not surprising that everyone was stunned when he entered the studio. Let's see if all this femininity works to her advantage for her to win the P4 million jackpot prize.

SNN’S NUMBER ONE FAN
WE are happy to hear that Showbiz News Ngayon (SNN) has become a viewing habit among televiewers and it is not even a month old. It is doubly interesting and a lot juicier than Entertainment Tonight (ET) where the concept was derived from.
Everything you need to know about the latest happenings in showbusiness is brought by hosts Boy Abunda and Kris Aquino, the undisputed king and queen of talk.
“No news becomes stale because we deliver them as fresh and hot as the proverbial pandesal and on a daily basis. Where follow-ups is needed, mabilis namin itong nailalahad,” the very articulate Abunda told us when we visited them on the Studio 8 where the first primetime entertainment news show is aired live.
Do you know that the number one fan of SNN is no less than former President Cory Aquino? When she saw her daughter seated on an elevated platform she feared kris might fall.
On our visit, we watched Kris do her lengthy interview with Dra. Vicki Belo where she revealed just about everything any gossip lover would want to know.
Dra. Belo, to our mind can outdo all the four judges of American Idol because she is sharp, full of humor and can throw punchlines which can easily knock anyone down.
Nice man ila mga shows gd..... Mga maayo pod ilang mga artista.
