Whoa... I'll repost the pics of electric masskara here from the Skyscrapercity Bacolod Main Thread. I was there last night grabe kaayu. Daghan kaayu mga tawo. Daghang tourist. Party party left and right. Maayu lang walay gubot. Didto me dapit nagtambay sa Saltimboca Kaadlawon na me niuli.

Saw Ceres Liner from Cebu via Tabuelan or Toledo I think. aircon unit. Gabii na niabot diri sa Bacolod.

Rain or Shine Electric MassKara Draws Crowd

The heavy downpour last night did not dampen the enthusiasm of Bacolodnons to witness the opening of electric Masskara competition. Although it was delayed for its start-up due to heavy rains, Lacson Street however, as tourism strip was crowded with people stretching their neck and expecting the go signal to start the event.


This was the third year of electric Masskara. In the previous years, the participants only danced on the streets. But this time, the dancers displayed their ingenuity and art in dancing on the improvised stage on top of the car on parade. The sound with the electrifying drum beats enticed the promenaders.

Joining the parade competition are 10 competing tribes from Barangays 1, 2, 3,4, 7, 13, 35, Cabug, Mandalagan and Tangub, anchored by Electric MassKara director Manny Montelibano. Prizes for the winners are: P50,000.00 - first prize; P30,000.00 - second prize; and P20,000.00 - third prize. Both winners and non- winners received Masskara trophies.

The top three winners will join the electric float parade tonight, Saturday 10:00 pm along the tourism strip of Bacolod.

People have crowded the area that no empty kiosk was seen. The stretch from Bangga Ramos to Burgos-Lacson Streets was teeming with promenaders.

Masskara Festival director Eli Francis Tajanlangit had an emergency meeting with various chairmen of the dancing competitions to decide whether or not including the electric Masskara tribes. Local officials present for this event were Mayor Evelio Leonardia, Vice Mayor Thaddy Sayson, Councilor Al Victor Espino, and others.* [ndb-online]
