well, I just remember what he said because its just recently. oh and yes, even though I can't interpret the exact meaning of what his trying to picture out about saying America don't give a damn to Hawaii, well its his opinion... for me, its understood that its not good, its negative! and contrary to what @vern said, its his/her interpretation of that phrase when he/she relates it with slums, poverty, etc. I shared this because I find substance when he said, The Philippines is better of not being an American state, that's the most important thing about it.

well basing from what my American friend said, its clear when he said that we are better of not being an American state because for him, and I agree with him that at this point, the world is not anymore in the "colonization" and "exploitation" stage. We all know that majority of Americans don't like the war of Iraq, they view it as an invasion of a sovereign state and its like America is just making her own enemies and counting, so I don't think that they'd ever allow the Philippines to knock into their halls of Congress to apply for statehood because for him, its just the same as invading another ones backyard and I don't think they are comfortable acting like "surrogate mother" of countries that wants to be a part of the Union just because these countries wants to escape their own social & economic problems. My friend is black, and he knows that because we all know slavery in America is big during those times, well thanks to the Pres. Abe, they were emancipated. He knows how discriminating, manipulative and exploitative the Americans are, his ancestors has gone to it and he doesn't want to see this beautiful country he described to be just under some corrupt US politicians. He knows the Philippines was once a US colony. Me too, I for once was thinking about US statehood, but its different now. the statehood thing could have been possible if we took advantage of being a US territory before, that could have been okay, we could have overtook Hawaii as the 50th state but because of our nationalists, those dreams were put to rest. we are now an independent country but still its good that were having a strong ties with the US.

and on the lighter note, is it not good to see having one star gone out of place in the US flag if ever that happens?

me i don't mind at all...my mom lives in the states now,that way things would be easier for my whole family...but i don't think this is gonna happen,theres just too much "obvious" greed in our government...

Yes greed started in our government from the time of Aginaldo to Quezon until the present. And manila is the symbol of greed.
