well I had an american friend, hes black and we discussed about this and he said and I quote him: "Jesus! whatta f***k! you know you guys are way better not being US territory, is your problem is corruption, America is a same old ****ing shit. America can't even give a damn of Hawaii!

and IMO, his right! being an American State is not the hope of this nation, its the people and government that should help this country. This country should not let anyone manage its own problems, instead face it and solve this problems as a nation. Washington is as corrupt as Manila. America is no different as Philippines. just my two cents.

well, I just remember what he said because its just recently. oh and yes, even though I can't interpret the exact meaning of what his trying to picture out about saying America don't give a damn to Hawaii, well its his opinion... for me, its understood that its not good, its negative! and contrary to what @vern said, its his/her interpretation of that phrase when he/she relates it with slums, poverty, etc. I shared this because I find substance when he said, The Philippines is better of not being an American state, that's the most important thing about it.

So where's the problem here? manila is the problem, so let us fix this problem by relying less from this f****n place because almost all the resources in this country are consumed by this leech! So much better to become one of the US states!

Of course America is different than our poor little Philippines. We're a 3rd-world country, duh! 3rd-world living, 3rd-world roads, 3rd-world transportation, the list goes on and on. Of course there's a difference.

Corruption? My God, we are worse.

If we were a US state, it would have been different. We would be making dollars... did you know hourly rate in Hawaii is higher than many other states? Although it's expensive to live there.
We could still have our natural resources. Our kids will have better opportunities. Majority of our people would be literate.
