Finals, Game 3

6:45 p.m. – SWU vs. UC (srs.)
The University of Cebu Webmasters hope to end it all tonight with no less than the championship crown tucked in their trophy case.
But to do that, the Webmasters must first hurdle the Southwestern University Cobras in Game 3 of their best-of-5 Finals Series for the 2011 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) seniors basketball crown at the Cebu Coliseum.
The reigning champions have zoomed off to a 2-0 lead after thrilling, 87-84 and 91-84 win in the first two games of the series. However, SWU, led by their fiery coach, Raul “Yayoy” Alcoseba, believes that the series is far from being over.
“We may be down, 2-0, but the series is not over yet. It’s not impossible to win three straight games especially since we have done it in the second round of the eliminations,” said Alcoseba, the mastermind behind the success of the commercial squad, M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala-Cebu Ninos.
Alcoseba though, believes that they have to grow up on the floor and do it quick, or the the series will be over.
“Our immaturity in the finals showed during the first two games of the series. We had it already but we just could not close it out. Daghan defensive lapses in both games which we really have to improve on,” he added.
Alcoseba also mentioned that in order for them to win, they must limit the production of the other Webmasters aside from star center, Junemar Fajardo.
In Game 2, Brian Heruela, Robinson Mohamad and Luigi Bercede combined for 50 markers, which buoyed them to the victory. The Cobras must also do with the knee injury that was sustained by star wingman Eleazar Armecin, who managed a measly five points in the last game.
“Armecin is less than 100 percent but he will play. We will just have to make adjustments,” said Alcoseba.
In the juniors division, the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu and the University of the Visayas will battle it for the series lead after the Baby Lancers tied the series at 1-1 with a convincing, 81-56 win in Game 2.

CEBU, Philippines - Defending champion University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters are eyeing for no less than a 3-0 sweep when they take on the Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras in Game 3 of their best-of-five title series in the 11th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) basketball season today at the Cebu Coliseum.

Game 3, Finals
5:15 pm SHS-AdC vs. UV (jrs.)
6:45 pm UC vs. SWU (srs.)
In the first game at 5:15 pm, the University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers and the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles renew their rivalry with similar goals of breaking a 1-all standoff.
The Webmasters took a commanding 2-0 series lead, but have to go through a five-minute extension before fending off the Cobras, 91-84. The overtime could have been prevented had pesky guard Francis Luigi Bercede made his two charities in the final 9.5 seconds of the regulation period.
Tonight will be the last chance for the Cobras to hang on or else they have to wait for the next season to achieve their championship dream especially that this will be the last playing year of 6-foot-9 center Junemar Fajardo with UC.
Manpower wise, the Cobras could match up with the Webmasters save for the fact that Fajardo is more dominant than SWU's 6-foot-6 Cameroonian center Justin Aboude. On the offensive end, Fajardo is also more productive than Aboude.
The other key elements to UC's advantage is that they have bigger pointguard in Quinton Brian Heruela, bigger forward in Edward Pao and bigger back-up center Alvin Lalolabo.
The Webmasters are also armed with reliable shooters in Robinson Mohammad, Gerald Ampoon and Jan Michael Auditor.
Aside from Aboude, the Cobras can count on the likes of Rene Pacquiao, Eleazar Armecin, Bonifacio Guillena and Mobert Arong.
Should the Webmasters emerge victorious, it will be the first sweep in a CESAFI Finals since the league adopted the best-of-five format three years ago. - THE FREEMAN

DEFENDING champions University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters have a chance to seal the deal tonight as they are a game away from retaining the collegiate division crown of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) at the Cebu Coliseum.
The momentum of the series is on the side of the Webmasters, after after they beat Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras in the first two games of the best-of-five championship round of the 11th Cesafi basketball tournament.
Have something to report? Tell us in text, photos or videos.
UC barely escaped with an 87-84 win in Game 1 last Saturday night, then won in overtime, 91-84, last Monday for a comfortable lead.
The Cobras still haven’t found a way to contain Junmar Fajardo, who has been dominant in both games with a 24.5-point average. Although Fajardo has been a bully down low against the smaller Cobras squad, he has had much needed help from the other key players like Brian Heruela, Edward Pao, Luigi Bercede and Robinson Mohammad.
Justin Aboude, Joseph Nalos and Rene Pacquiao have so far been dependable on the offensive end in both games. However, SWU has had inconsistent performances from Eleazar Armecin and Bonifacio Guillena who are key players in the Cobras’ attack.
Meanwhile, last year’s runner-up Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles take on the University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Green Lancers in Game 3 of the best-of-five high school championship at 5:15 p.m. in the afternoon.
Both elite squads are tied with SHS-AdC winning Game 1, 94-82, and UV retaliating with an 81-56 shutout in Game 2.
SHS-AdC’s top guns Julius Cadavis and Dawn Ochea have so far been silent in the past two games of the series. Patrick Go has stepped up for the Magis Eagles and has led the team in scoring with an average of 17.5 points per game in the championship series.
UV’s offense, on the other hand, has been spearheaded by Andres Desiderio, who has averaged 23.5 points per game in both championship games. The momentum of the championship round could shift in favor of the squad that wins the crucial Game 3.
ONE BIG FIGHT Magis Eagles!
