thats why it pays to research... dali ra man i-google ng butanga.
what i answered awhile back was the insinuation that orijen and acana
are not good and not worth their hefty price tags.
dogs with kidney and liver probs should stay away from high protein diets,
thats irregardless of dogfood brand... and not specifically orijen and acana.
mao ra na ako point ato.

@koikox: if naglibog ka maam imo lang tan awon ang first primary content sa dogfood.if ang primary ingredient niya kay meat nya high quality meat content then ok na siya.next is grain-free dogfood, walay corn, corn glutens, wheats, grains etc. kay mao man maka cause og allergies.then next is fruits and vegetables content, dapat naay fruits and veges ang dogfood.

try ang Acana katong orange ang color puppy large breed.mao man to akong gi-feed sa akong GSD before until 8 months siya then i switched to Nature Select cos its a bit cheaper kay sa Acana but i like Acana than Nature Select kay nindot siya ug effect sa lawas sa iro.ma-unudan jud dayon ang dog in just 2 weeks makita dayon ang result.ang Orijen kusog pod makapatambok basta dili nimo subayon ag feeding guidelines.go naturals and orijen same ang effect sa akong dog.in a week makita na nimo ang result sa body and coat but mejo pricey lang jud labina kay large breed akong mga dogs.

try lang ang Acana puppy large breed kato orange ang color sa sack.....then observe in 2 weeks di bah makita ra gyud nimo ang deperensya.if mahalan ra ka then go for Nature Select kato green ang color sa sack Chicken high protein puppy,ok na pang alternative na dogfood.

But she did tell me to stay away from Vitality and Beef Pro as these contain ingredients that'll trigger allergies in dogs. I then asked her about Origen and Acana, because I was thinking of switching my husky to that. She said she doesn't recommend these products since these have very high protein content (40%.) These products aren't fit for dogs living a sedentary lifestyle since they can't really burn off the excess protein. Using these products on dogs that aren't very active will result to liver and kidney failure. These were developed in Canada, a country with very cold weather, so these were targeted to nourish dogs when it gets very cold. She also cited a patient at the clinic as an example. The dog, a show dog at that, was peeing blood already because of too much protein intake. Recommended protein for pups is 32%, while adult dogs should only be getting 22 - 28%.

I do agree with Nutley. We should all be responsible owners. Our dogs may be smart, yes, but we are supposed to be smarter. We should know what to feed them. Research and ask your most trusted vet. Recommendations from fellow dog owners are good, but it's always wiser to refer to the vets because they're the professionals.
I beg to disagree with your statement faithfulina. Remember not all dog foods are created equally. Super premium brands are way different from premium brands as much as pet grade quality dog food and a human grade quality dog food. There are several factors why vets in our place do not recommend high protein diet for our pooch because they think that this will stress out the liver and kidneys. Partly this analogy is true for pet grade quality dog food tend to use cheaper ingredients that result to stressing the vital organs thus posing a threat to their well being. However, super premium grade dog food, such as Orijen/Acana as you have mentioned, were developed specifically, to ensure an optimum level of nutrition needed by our dogs. I honestly believe that what you paid for in every bag of this kind of dog food were scientifically tried and tested by pet nutritionist and veterinarians as well. That is why it hurts a lot to purchase super premium brands bec. they aren't made for pet grade quality. Try to do a research with the product you have mentioned before discrediting the facts just because you were supposedly told by our vets. Remember that you only consulted one person who does not have a product knowledge of the brand rather than being one sided to it.
