Cebu is definitely Asean summit host

CEBU CITY -- Even before she saw what the Cebu City Government has prepared for the Asean summit, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo confirmed and announced with finality that Cebu will host the meeting of Asian leaders in December.

Impressed with Wednesday night's show, which was likened to the "Rio de Janeiro and New Orleans mardi gras," Asean organizing committee officials lauded the City Government for its preparations.

WT CONSTRUCTION is the winning bidder

When President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo flies to Cebu on Wednesday, local officials will be ready with “proof” that they are on schedule with preparations for the December summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

In turn, she will be asked about her promise to have P1 billion in government funds poured into Cebu’s efforts.

The provincial government will declare Cebu-based WT Construction the winning bidder for the first phase of the Megadome with construction to start in March.

The firm owned by William Te posted the lowest bid of P84 million for foundation works. It will be awarded the contract Wednesday, said Eduardo Jabin, Capitol administrator.

“The Cebu International Convention Center will be ready in November and we are on schedule,” Governor Garcia said Tuesday.

The new design will use pre-cast steel and concrete as foundation of the structure to speed up the timetable.
